why the weapon power drain changes??

I dont understand why the weapon power drains have been doubled, anyone know what the reasons are for changing something that wasn't broken?

    so that we do 0 dmg when firing weapons consequently making the battles twice as long, forcing us to play longer.

    thats what i was thinking but that would make Jack a hypocrite, he doesn't want a DP because its a timesink and not fun so instead they turn combat into a timesink.

    The game isn't fun anymore IMO

    They increased just Turrets, Single Cannons and Dual Cannons, right?

    im not sure but a fleet mate said all weapons have had their power drains doubled

    ive got 2 dual phaser cannons and 2 turrets on my escort and it drains to 0 power after 1 attack run using cannon rapid fire, unfortunatly i can't affored to pay around 400k for an EPS flow regulator so if its just cannons and turrets that are effected i'll switch to cruisers

    You fleet mate is incorrect. They only change turrets,cannons,and dual cannons to be more inline with beams.

    this is what i was fearing, it wasnt broken and didnt need fixing and will just serve to ruin the game, shame cryptic felt this was necessary :( id be suprised at this rate if STO lasts longer than a year

    Just do what us loser beam-people figured out ages ago. Stack EPS transfer consoles. That will fix most of the issue.

    I can't wait to get on and use my 8 beam star cruiser with the new nerfs, its gonna be awesome. Double power drain and an EPS nerf? can't wait!!!

    I agree, this has made escorts seriously unbalanced, they die just as quick but do very little damage

    easier said than done, at commander i have 1 engineering console, exchange prices for EPS is around 400k and you can't buy EPS consoles until captain using exploration badges

    The alltered space combat is horrible. I couldn't fire the 3 Dual Plasma on my Prometheus with rapid fire as the ship has not enough power for it :(

    You're right, I should respec and max out all weapons skills and put 2 of everything on my loadout. Oh wait, i don't have enough skillpoints for that, oh thats right theres a skill cap so i can't get more skillpoints.

    I run Advanced Escort with 3x Dual Phaser Beam Banks MK X front with Quantum Toprps MK X and 2 X Phaser beam arrays MK X and Quantum Torp. MK Xrear.. 3X phaser relay, 1 X Zero Point chamber,,

    Never had an EPS console.. Power never drops below 80 and out DPSs cannon / Truuet ships any day of the week.. have been doing that since Open Beta. (also requires some skills with your BO Buffs to pull off as well)

    Of course I am maxed in my skills for Escort, the 3 new abilities for attact vectors, maxed for phasers and quantums, for engines weapons and shields for ship operations.. and at T5 I have 7 pts in Weapon Perf and 9 pts in Advanced escort capian.

    Usually get 1st - 2nd place in fleet actions.. don't have issues with power at all.

    Well, it sucks. To me at least.

    My BOP is pretty much TRIBBLE now. May as well go back and play Fed again.

    Maybe because ships aren't supposed to be designed to fire immense amounts of lasers all at once?

    Fed isn't much better.
    My Prometheus is now worthless. I had 2 dual heavy Plasma and 2 Plasma Cannons. I even can not fire them for short periods continiously now.

    I also get the feeling this "problem" is because a lot of players do this in a fight:
    Full Impulse until close range, un-Impulse and fire

    Which means you have pretty much no weapon power.

    Escorts still do the most burst damage, so no you can't do as much with beams.

    The REAL hit is the nerf to EPS consoles 9Much needed IMO). This will keep people from spamming cannons now.


    The whole point was to balance escorts.

    People don't read tooltips. NEver, apparently.

    Look at your cannon tooltips. They say they have a increased power drain WHEN FIRING OTHER WEAPONS.

    Now, does "other weapons" mean weapons of the same TYPE (i.e. all cannons/beams) or of the same damage type (mixed disruptor/tetryon, for example) remains to be tested - either way this is the thing to check, rather than randomly speculate that "they just doubled cannon energy drain".

    True, the EPS nerf didn't help anything - escorts should get a bonus to EPS consoles due to their energy drain IMHO. Other than that - testing is needed to establish what that phrase on the tooltip means. It shoulda been checked out on Tribble - but again, nobody reads tooltips.

    EDIT: After some testing in the Zwenas Expanse, this is indeed the case. Weapons must be of the same damage type and class as well (all heavies or all duals/all cannons - unknown on turrets YET).to not get the penalty to weapon energy usage - though the EPS console nerf still means that there is a limit to how much you can use before running out of energy. Weapon batteries will become more useful with the EPS nerf - and the extra energy usage is going to encourage specialization in ONE type of weapon.

    bummer, going to have to totally revamp my escort setup as it was based on turrets,dual heavy cannons and just 1 torpedo launcher.
