I mean today i had 169mb, not that much i guess in the grand scheme of things, but when in other mmos ive played (most of them!) patch lists like todays would result in say 30-40mb file size.
I'd just like to point out that asking that is like asking why an hour long video file is smaller in WMV format than it is in high res AVI format. Games use different formatting, so all games have different file sizes for different things. Also, I don't know if you ever watch the actual download file size on the patcher, but today's file with Cryptic's compression (that I still want to identify) was less than 25 MB, are you sure you're not mistaking the actual download size on other games for the patch file size?
Thanks for the patch notes, but since you have a board for them, could you please start putting them in there again as it's a bit pointless otherwise.
Dont take this the wrong way cause its just a query but why are the patches so relatively large in size when theres a short list?

Just curious why STO always has larger patch files to be downloaded for code fixes and bug fixes etc and no real graphical etc additions.
You weren't actually downloading 169mb, that's just the file it was patching at the time, the download does have more info that we need and isn't that clear but i have no issues.
And thanks guys for the patch updates, its nice to have it show on the launch pad early rather than having to search the site, nice job, and a big thanks for fixing the red matter capacitor.
Any patch that does not contain the ability to ReSpec is a complete and utter failure/waste of time. Nothing else matters.
For you, maybe. There are vere few things in this game I care less for than respecs.
And I think not many people do. Most casual gamers don't care that much about the abilities of their character, and hardcore gamers can just make a new char and level it up to Admiral in a few days.
You wouldn't need a re-spec if you actually read and comprehend the skills available to you.
That being said, a vast majority of people need a re-spec since they have proven themselves time and time again that they like to dive in head-first and pay the consequences later.

Or some people would like to have enough points in antiproton weapons you get at Admiral.

I would believe this if the actual descriptions and tooltips of the skills were accurate. Until they are, your theory doesn't exactly hold up very well.
With the time you have had and the level of challenges, you have done so well. Please stay encouraged. I know we are hard to please, and when it seems so, just remember, this is STILL the best Star Trek Sim ever made. From my heart, I thank you for giving me the universe I always wanted to experience.

I'm not happy, no update for the Promotion mission bug...
I got my ship before i went through the stages of talking to people, now after i went back and talked to the admiral ... i'm now stuck at the stage of talking to lt.laurel about choosing my ship which i've already done

Serves ya right for rushing!
Im guessing a flags not being set, from my very limited experience in that area.

Just use the ship plaque to buy another ship, since it'll be free anyway. I had this happen in OB and that's how I got around it.
Oo K what about fixing the Science Skills that are broken. Kinda hard to Play a Science Officer when a couple of the skills you WAnt to use are broke.....I mean come on there messing with MAP issues, Shesh take care of the core first.

I am a casual gamer. I am one of the few gamers that works 50 hours a week and doesn't live in my grandmothers basement.
I have a Captain 3 Klingon and a Lt Cmdr 2 Federation... My time is valuable to me. I want respecs so I can have the characters I want.
The skill tooltips are total garbage. They do not give you enough information to know exactly what skills are getting affected by them. Seriously, the skill description is like, "This skill may or may not affect some other skill that is slightly similar to this skill". It is complete and total garbage.
I don't have time to level up MORE characters just to change my skills. I barely have time to play the ones I currently have. And another thing...sometimes you get bored playing a science ship. So...pay the cost of Merits or Credits or whatever, get a respec...buy a new ship and try a different playstyle for awhile.
A respec is the MOST important thing a casual gamer can get.... How do you not understand this?
Sad patch to be honoest. Most important things are missing but some minor bug fixed no one really cares about.
Mentor Mode for private pvp is key. -> not working.
PvP Battles with less than 5v5 -> not working.
Pieces of Klingon PvE content -> missing.
Endgame content -> missing.
but awesome job on fixing nonsense.
yep, and honestly if they dont address some of the more serious/important issues before end of Free time I and a few frineds will be taking a leave til than...Dont get me wrong its a fun game but with little end game and about 26 days of play to hit Rear Admirl R1 (lvl 41) im kinda getting worried about the long gevity of Sto. I remember it taking me a couple months to hit max lvl with a few other mmos, and even than it had good amount of end game stuff....

I totally agree that respecs are VERY important to implement ASAP.... but I just wanted to give ya a piece of advice in the meantime. If you hit the "P" key to bring up your available skills (will only show ship skills if you're in space and only ground skills when on the ground) but when you select an ability in this list it tells you EXACTLY what skill pts it benefits from.
why is this not posted in the release notes forum? I have to say it is a bit of a treasure hunt to find patch notes, they are always in different places. Sometimes the link is posted at the end of the downtime thread, sometimes on the release notes forum, sometimes here, sometimes to Timbuktu....
Very Rare and Omega items may now be equipped on your Bridge Officers. Note that these items do not display on costumes yet. Costume designs for this gear will be addressed in a future update.
Impulse Engines with Full Enhancements now properly provided a bonus to Full Impulse speed.
Fixed Red Matter Capacitor so that it is functional and can be equipped on the power bar. Multiples will not stack.
Mk-X Deflectors now allow full use of all Deflector related powers.
Clarified tooltips for Torpedoes to show they disable and kill a target percent or an absolute amount of crew - whichever is less.
The Best Buy special promotion Tribble is now appropriately displayed as a Rare item.
Addressed an issue where some Grenades were not displaying visual FX when thrown.
Anti-Proton Dual Beams now use Anti-Proton stats and not Phaser stats.
Graphics
We removed the old driver warning on the 191-195 line of NVidia drivers that some players were receiving since newer drivers are not yet available for some configurations.
Game Cursor rendering is no longer reliant on the GPU which should resolve issues with cursors disappearing on SLI configurations.
Combat
Some larger enemy ships were not damaging player crew, and some smaller ships were damaging too many. This is now fixed.
Environment
Fixed an issue where some players were unable to enter the Cernan system
Added the ability to use the Depart System (minimap button) from Sol System and Earth Space Dock.
UI
Added more localized text that was missing from the Tutorial and Character Creation.
Updated the Galaxy map to make locations more accurate, fix typos, and add future game play locations.
Addressed an issue where ranking up bridge officers would unexpectedly add additional ranks.
Audio
Congratulations Lieutenant! Voice Over narration from Leonard Nimoy should now play more reliably when you level up in space.
Added the missing audio for Tractor Beam Repel.
Revised the audio for science (medical) team.
Misc.
Ensured that unique special items are being checked properly to prevent players from equipping multiple copies of unique items.

You may want to review the patch notes again... unless you are talking about some other missing grenades...

I had just gotten it printed 24" by 36" and framed for the living room yesterday. Ugh...
(QUICK! MODS! MOVE IT!)
Put it under a Misfile.
All of the above.
Mentor Mode for private pvp is key. -> not working.
PvP Battles with less than 5v5 -> not working.

Does unique include uncommon or rare items etc?

Key? Not really. At least, I dont see why it would be, but then, im not big on pvp anyway.
Thatd be nice, instead of having to wait hours for one more person, and have someone drop out.
That, I REALLY want!
Dont care much, since Im nowhere near that stage yet(Commander 2 right now).
Serves ya right for rushing!

It looks a lot like the old map.
You can't be serious right??

Excellent!
I saw the typo correction and smiled...
Now if only I could somehow get the game to replay Nimoy's voiceovers....
