After the first ten minutes of playing, I'd added so many people to my ignore list that I decided it'd just be easier to move the zone chat to its own tab and ignore it.
How ironic, in a game spawned by a television series that was groundbreaking and celebrated for its tearing down of racial / ethnic / nationalistic walls and enclaves.
actually the simplest (and in complience with German law) solution is to add words banned in germany to the forum and chat filters.
there is a legal issue with certain words being displayed on German players computer screens and currently STOL is not in complience with those laws.
so at a minimum the word TRIBBLE and other forbidden words associated with nazisim and national socialisim have to be filtered for German players otherwise you risk your ability to do business there
Personally, I'd have banned most of this thread in an abject lesson of how dimly semantic idiocy should be taken when dealing with things of this nature.

I don't think that's true. The swastika is mostly banned in Germany, as is pro-TRIBBLE speech, but I don't think the actual words are banned.

This is why US players and Europeans should not be on the same same servers, because some idiot always thinks that he (or she) speaks on behalf of the entire freaking World. Some moron in a video game always thinks that they were put on this Earth to solve all it's problems . It ruined Champions for me, and it will no doubt ruin this game for me.

I just don't like to read German text, sorry. I think German is ugly, I did spend a lot of time learning it but never really got to like it. I could also speak on my native language in zone chat but I think others might find it ugly as well, so purely out of love towards all human beings I rather make an effort to speak the language most of them are somewhat familiar with. Might be just me though.
To be constructive, I don't really know why we don't have Zone.de or Zone.fr, for all the languages the client knows. I mean, if the client was translated to German, let there be a German Zone chat which is the default for German clients, it's not much to ask. Also, please add the item names to Exchange messages in the receiver account's language, I may not always know what those funky sounding names refer to, although most of the time I can figure it out. Anyway, languages should not be just mixed like that, does Tower of Babel ring a bell?
as far as i know there was an acutal TRIBBLE party back in the 30s and 40s....not a big fan of revisionist history.....the term TRIBBLE has been wattered down a bit, pertaining to someone trying to keep you suppressed (like the Soup TRIBBLE on Seinfeld).

First - Racism exists in video games, period. It is just how it is. Anonymity gives people the freedom to behave in ways they would otherwise think twice about.
Second - There is no German race, it is a nationality. Telling someone to speak English is not being racist. Is it being rude? Yes. But not racist.
Third - Speak how you wish to speak. If you want to speak in your native language, go ahead and do so. Ignore everyone else and be happy.
Fourth - Just as you don't like being insulted by being told to speak English, don't come here and insult people's intelligence that had no part in such interactions. It only make you part of the problem and not part of the solution. Just as you feel generalized by "TRIBBLE" comments, we don't like to be generalized in with a group of immature children.

Lately, more and more often, i notice increasing racism and racist remarks in the public zone channels.
It usually starts with someone speaking german in a public channel, which is then followed by a bunch of people yelling at them to speak english, which is then followed by funny remarks about how all germans are TRIBBLE and that we should stop speaking german in the game because people are afraid to get invaded and stuff like that.
First of all: The game was also published in germany and has a german publisher, meaning that germans can speak german anytime they want to, and there is not a piece of sh*t you can do about it.
Second: TRIBBLE comments about germans are not funny, they are racist. So in making those funny comments, you make yourself a damn racist yourself.
Third: comments about germans starting wars are not funny either (as a side note, 90% of all the wars on the last 60 years were started by americans. Did you find those weapons of mass destruction yet, btw?).
Fourth: There is NO rule anywhere that we are forced to speak english. Most of us do speak english because we are polite enough to do so, but imagine that, there are still a few germans, especially YOUNGER germans, that dont even know HOW to speak english. How many foreign language does the avergage american or brit speak, btw?
So, dear cryptic GM's, i expect a hard ruling against any form of racism in the forums or in the games. This is YOUR game, and you are going to be held responsible for what is going on there. If you think racism is ok, then please let us know.

Thing is, being English, Irish or Scottish denotes where you come from not your race. That said, prejudice based on someones nationality is wrong.

I am a Brit and I have visited Germany many times. I have been to several towns and cities in Germany and met many German people. My sister lives and works in Germany and I have friends there too. German people are pretty much like people all over the 'civilised' world; happy, sad, weak, robust, dim, clever, funny, morose and in fact just about any frame you can apply to yourself or any other person. There is good and bad in every state!
One thing I am sure of is that comedy has its limits and a lot of people do not know the difference between comedy, insult and downright ignorrance.
There is a difference between saying 'Do'nt mention the war' (comically) and saying 'All Germans are Natzi invaders' (blatant prejudice).
Cryptic, please make it clear that this prejudice that is based on nationality and designed to insult or even incite hatred is unacceptable both in game and in the forums. You may already say so in your terms, but maybe a message at login with a clear statement against said behaviour would help.

Same reason they have different boards for each languange. Its not like you can't join any channel, just speak (type) in the language of the channel.
