Incorrect Ship Engine and Shield values

First off, I searched for this but couldn't find any mention of it so I apologise if it has been discussed elsewhere. If you could point me there, that would be great.
I recently got to Captain and acquired my Exploration Cruiser. Ever since getting this ship, all Shield and Engine values are that of the Exploration Cruiser, no matter which ship I have set as my current. Even when changing to my Escort or Heavy Escort, I get Flight Speed 9 and Turn Rate 3 on the engines I'm using and ones in my inventory. As far as I can tell these values seem to be getting used as well. My Escort ships seem to turn much slower than they used to.
Any help on this matter would be appreciated. Also ask any questions about details I may have missed.
