one of the many things i was looking forward to with my atari DDE pre-order was getting my NX prefix. - no running arround with the U.S.S. garbage that everyone under the sun is forced to fly with... got my stuff and all was good till i noticed that the prefix is only for the registration number - it doesn't apply to the ship name.

so now i get to fly around with NX painted on my hull, but everonelse see's me as <U.S.S> WTF instead of the <N.X.> W.T.F (BTW WTF isn't my actual ship name, just a place holder for message purposes)..... when you're flying around you see other players names and ship numbers, the registry is only on the hull, not part of the characters title.

the only way someone's gunna know i have the N.X. package, is if they park themselves right on my hull, zoom all the way in and hope there's enough light for it to be readable. - why not just sell studded nose rings that are so small they can only see durring character creation.

not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but kinda anoying to have a bonus that only you are aware of.

Yes and thats how its always been, USS Defiant NX ... the NX Enterprise was the only real one because the Federation didnt exist.

someone asked about whether the NX prefix can be used on multiple ships/characters or just one. If anyone knows, I'd love the answer as well!

you can put it on all your ships, i have it on both of my toons - but unless you go around asking people to park on your hull, you're the only that will see it.

i understand that "cannon" says put the NX on the number, not the name --- but this is a Game, not a quest to see how F'in anal we can get over made up technicalities (though i do know that's how many of you hard core trekies get your rocks off)

if we have a bonus for pre-purchasing the game, then it needs to be something that we can show off and separate us from all the other scrubs who didn't - not something that can only be seen if your looking right at the screen of the person playing.

@ the very least change the color of our names and stuff that is floating over our heads to something special for NX class ships.

    NX replaces NCC, not USS.
The Enterprise from the original series was NCC-1701, and was called the USS Enterprise.
The Enterprise from the show Enterprise was the NX-01, and was still the USS Enterprise.

This is something ALL Star Trek fans SHOULD know.

Exactly. Let's equip all our toons with lightsabers, rainbow colored phasers, 1337 named ships and characters, neon lights under the ships, spoilers and ask for a Colonel rank for our toons.

After all, this IP is Cryptic's property anyway..

    God, give me patience..

According to Memory Alpha the NCC is a combination of America's prefix NC and the Soviet's CCC, though they may have given it that as the break down for the NCC acronym. I didn't mean to make that sound correcting... lol, just meant this as being informative.

neon lights under the ships would be sweet - Cryptic this guy had a good idea - lets get to work this ASAP.

the NX prefix is a cosmetic option only, should you have a special name because you have the TOS uniform equiped?

other people can see you wearing a ToS uniform - they can't see TRIBBLE written on your hull.

why not sell tail parts in the C-store for character creation, but then force characters to stuff their tails down a pant leg because it's not cannon for pants to have tail holes. nothing i love more then running around with a special bonus that only i am aware of.

better yet, why not let us spray paint gang tags onto our hull? - no ones gunna ever see it anyway.

Uh, just because some nerd put that on his website doesn't make it a fact.

Edit: And just because something is on a wiki doesn't make it true either.

uh, most of them are well know FACTS... and are used by the Shows, Lore, and the real world...

oh and just so you know.... there are about a thousand more of these... used in Real World Navies and Star Trek....

It's a registry prefix. And you're not the only one aware of it. It's just someone has to fly up and look at your hull closely to see the registry number. Either that or right click you and go to Info. Try roleplaying with roleplayers, they'll notice it.

I love how people yell "it's a game" as though that justifies going against canon.

The only time they should go against canon is when it's necessary from a mechanics standpoint.. and even then they should avoid it as much as possible. This... is cosmetic. It's not necessary. It shouldn't happen.

I also thought that the NX prefix replaces the USS, not NCC. Though I can kinda see how that mistake could be made. Still, it did seem like it would be NX "whatever". Is it enough to make me cry and moan, no. But enough to make me question any other special offer they come up with. Cryptic has NOT been completely honest ahead of time about their incentives.

The NX Designation is in the registry. This is canon.

The USS Excelsior was NX-2000 while she was testing the transwarp engines. When they were stripped, she was changed to NCC-2000

The Defiant was an NX. The Prometheus was an NX.

These are designations that show that the ship is experimental. It is stripped once theship is no longer experimental.

Sorry you weren't aware of the canon explanation behind it, but that is hardly Cryptic's fault. Even Enterprise had the NX in it's designation... even though they also called it NX Class(stupid).

The way I figure is, at the time, they only focused on one experimental starship at the time. Once it leaves the experimental stage it would be given a more proper class name.

Afterall... why assign a class name to a type of ship that might fail the experimental stage? It'd be a wasted name.

I still like someone's idea from beta of adding the registry number on mouse over. Basically that means that if someone has the NX prefix it would only show if someone moved the mouse over the ship.

Either that or have ALL registry numbers visible in a smaller font size under the ship name AT ALL TIMES.
