Cardassians/Romulans

Okay so we all know that on the factions page there are 4 shown factions. 2 are clickable (Feds and Klings) the other 2 arnt (Romulans and Cardassians).

People have somehow from this page summed up that they will be 2 additional factions that players will be able to fight for at a later date. Now why would anyone assume that? Im just asking the question here because im not sure on anything.

Has anything official been said? Will there DEFINATELY be a 3rd and 4th faction? Or is that page eventually just going to show information on additional non-playable factions?

I would hope that eventually I could play as a Cardassian but again has there been any conformation on there being such a faction? Why does everyone believe that there eventually will be? Purely down to that page?

    The only official thing has been said is that they will consider community input for features after launch. I'm pretty sure that a lot of players would like to see playable Romulans and Cardassians, however, we probably need to let them get klingons fully implemented first :)

    Cryptic has already gone on record as saying that 2 additional playable factions will become availible sometime after launch. Whether that's weeks (unlikely) or months (probably) after launch, remains to be seen.

    Well let's think about this. They will be adding two new factions. There are two factions greyed out on their page..

    It's obvious that they will be adding the Breen next!

    I'd rather Roms then cardies, but cardies could be feddie or other. After all, they are a mess.

    i agree they should focus on klingons first. they're the more sought-after faction by fans and PvP-ers.

    if you organize it by level it would go: federation, klingon, romulan, cardassian, and borg (then the dominion maybe?). so if they stick to really fleshing out each faction in that order and don't get ahead of themselves i think they'll do well enough. my only hope is that they have full storylines for each. not just one big interweaving narrative.

    i personally can't wait to play a cardassian, but of course will have at least 1 character per faction that gets alot of use.

    Factions would suggest they would be fighting on their own or at least for their own cause...

    Cannon tells us the next playable faction would be romulans...given they have the biggest batch of existing lore

    But I still prefer the Cardassians...

    Why waste the screen space on art that shows the other two factions if they didn't intend those to be used at some point? If the game is just Federation and Klingons and that's all that there will ever be, then there's no reason to include the other two in the first place.

    Seeing as it's highly likely you'll be able to purchase additional character slots in the c-store after launch, there's no real point in buying additional slots if all you're stuck with is F&K.

    I suspect that Cryptic will wait and see what the population is like before launching a new faction.

    If I had my choice, I'd much rather Romulans that Klingons.

    when i looked at the page i never assumed they would be playable factions due to the fact that when you click on teh federation you get a biased description of that faction by both the Federation and Klingon Ambassadors and the four main areas of space are Fed, Klingon, Romulan and Cardassian.

    Having said that it would be logical to add them at some point (imo in the order of Romulan Star Empire then Cardassian Union) with both races having charactor options in the federation listing as wel. but not before the Klingon content is finished.

    Whether it's true or not, I have no idea - but to make a race to the current state of Klingon you need:
    - character animation, and race selection.
    - a "home world" (done).
    - ship models, texture-customizeable (probably done).
    - balancing (at a rough guess not on the radar).

    Based on that, my own view is that a 'preliminary/beta' cardassian faction could be in the game this year, if it's needed.

    1st. I'm a huuuge Romulan-fan so I'd rather have Romulans first :D Give us Romulans pleease! I wanna fly a Warbird <3

    2nd. I'd go with Cardassians, too. They are my second favourite race xD

    3rd. If you look at the Code on the Factions-page, the text about roms and cardis is already written!
    (in your explorrer hit "view sourcecode" or something simiilar, then scroll down through the html-code. The last two big batches of hughe text-chunks are the stuff the Fed / Klingon guys have to say about the factions.

    I'll not post all of it, maybe Cryptic wouldn't like it. Maybe they don't even like that I found the text :D
    But here's an exerpt of what the Klingons have to say about Romulans (I found it funny ;) )
    <P>Romulans are pointy eared ******* Vulcans, except not as smart as Vulcans. But just as annoying. They count themselves warriors, but they aren’t. They’re rabid beasts. Sly, unreliable, willing to dine upon the corpses of their brothers to survive.     Oh yes, perfect description, put into perfect words - I'm SO looking forward playing a true Romulan, flying my Warbird around, ohhh dreams, dreams! <3


    Uh, my point beeing: Dear Cryptic, PLEASE make Romulans (and Cardassians) a playable faction for STO! :)


    PS. The video looks promising, if it's not a fake, one does never know. They do have Cardi uniforms, wich is a sign, that they didn't simply build cardis with Fed or Kling faction =)

    I am looking forward to being able to play Romulans & Cardassians in a future expansion, I also hope the Breen make an appearance as well. Do you think there will be playable factions in Delta & Gamma Quadrants?


    What traits would you suggest for Romulans & Cardassians in the current character creator?

    When the Cardassian was the first race shown in the character builder/customizer youtube clip I thought for sure they were going to be one of the selectable races for either the Klingons or Feds and i got giddy...

    Then the website got updated with them as their own playable faction and I fainted...

    Then they announced they'd be available after launch and I was heart broken...


    I was halfway tempted to roll bajorian in the interm until I can roll up a Cardassian for irony's sake.

    To be honest, the only faction I have no interest in playing is the Federation. The main two I''d love to play are Klingon (which I am playing now) and Romulan.

    The dominion I'm sure would be included with the Cardassian faction. Why would anyone want to play a borg I can't think of anything honestly more boring. You are autonomous and have no self identity. I mean playing a Queen possibly but it still seems far fetched. What would you do go find players to assimilate i mean thats kind of one minded I think. I'd rather see Hirogens frankly.

    Garak is one of my favorite trek characters, would be interesting to have a intelligence type class in the game.
