Nvidia Geforce 8400,

WOW runs smooth, and this game looks like something from the 90's....updating drivers now, am sure that wont help,

I guess i am disappointed the graphics are not very smooth, as in the prementioned game.

Wow runs smooth on almost anything because it's designed on an outdated 10 year old engine. It cant even run in 32 bit color.

This game has modern tech so you need a modern computer to lay it. The 8400 you have is not a gaming card. It is a video playback card. It also has ddr2 ram which is terrible for gaming.

If you get a modern computer, even a dual core machine with a 8600 GT ddr3 you would notice the difference.
looks like its time for you to either upgrade or head back to wow :(

Well I guess I am glad I only pre-ordered, the graphics look like something out of woflenstein back in the 90's.

    So disaapointed!!!

You shouldn't be disappointed. The minimum specs were posted some time ago. If you're that upset, and want to play the game that badly, upgrade your computer like some of us did. Saying the game's graphics look like they're from wolfenstein (when they're in fact, not) isn't going to get you anywhere except in the frying pan with some of this game's community.

Be patient, upgrade your computer when you have the time and money, and come back. That's what I had to do for LotRO two years ago. The only thing I've done to this rig in two years is gone from a pair of 8800GTXs to a pair of GTX275s. Let me tell you, this game runs like SILK.

Believe me I know what you are saying, and yes on my computer it looks like Wolfenstein, where WoW in Dalaran ran smooth with no lag.

If the majority of players are going to come from WoW or ...well no if they are going to come from Wow I think they will be disappointed that their computers need such an upgrade, and who reads specs, we just jump in and play. :)

So now do I spend money for a new computer to play this game, that from every review I have seen has issues, people are bored already, albeit still so new...or find something else...and I was so sick of WoW too. :(

wow was designed to run on Tandy 1000's, they specificly wanted to make every computer run wow. wow's graphics were terrible, it is no game to state a cards abilities by... now battlefield 2 when it came out at full gpu power, that was a feat to take on!

It looks like something from the 90's because it is a sure bet the game toggled on the run at 'half-resolution' option. Go into the video options menu and turn it off.

Instead of blindly upgrading your system with hardware you may well not need, consider playing with the numerous graphics settings available in-game.

First, set the basic graphics slider to the first or second 'notch'. Then, fine-tune your graphical preferences using the advanced option by checking the box beneath the slider.

Keeping Shadows on Low, and disabling Anti Aliasing and Post-Processing, as well as not enabling High Detail Actors are a good place to start. Increase viewing distance to a level you feel comfortable with when playing while keeping an eye on how well the game runs for you.

Try each setting separately - click Apply and fly/move around and see what the option does for you. If it makes things worse, you can always go back. If you enable/change a lot of settings at once, you may find yourself having trouble figuring out which working settings you had previously.

If all else fails, you can always use the Half-Resolution option - the game will perform a lot better and the Interface/Dialogs will still be in the same high resolution, so no functionality will be lost.

    Good luck :)

tedgp, please stop discouraging people from being helpful. You've already made your opinion of Ohio84's graphics hardware clear. Naenee is trying to be helpful, don't be negative.

I seem to have the same problem as the op but I'm using the following:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40 Ghz
    Ram: 3 Gb
    Dx: 11
    Video Card: Geforce 8500 GT
    Internet: Cable
If you can suggest something I would welcome any information on why this game is still so jumpy.

    Shadows everything cranked up high.

    Running Radeon 4850's crossfired.
And soon to be replaced with a Radeon 5850.

If being realistic is being negative, so be it. I'm not gonna tell him to get a terrible card and waste his money.

7950's are way more powerful than an 8400. a 7950 is a gaming card. an 8400 is primarily a video playback card. Even the manufacturer says its not ideal for gaming.

Im guessing the 8500GT has ddr2 ram. Again, like the OP, it's a video playback card. Couple that with the ddr2 memory, and youll be lucky to run much, if anything at all well on it.

Mid to low end machines on older cards are going to struggle with STO. Recommended SPECS are hardly the recommended. I meet recommended and the game runs like dirt on all but the lowest settings and even then some zones run like mud. Overdose on the environmental effects and planetary bodies. I hate it when developers always think they are forced to cram so much junk into one scene when all we really care about is the ships and fx. Unless your running this game on a high end vid card/CPU it's going to struggle. Hell the game was overiding my control panel for days up until yesterdays patch. Now I can force settings in the Nvidia control panel again. Overall I think performance went down even with VSYNC off. I hardly every run anything with VSYNC off but with STO it runs so poor with VSYNC on I am forced to turn all post process and dynamics off. I litterly have to butcher the settings just to get smooth play and it's not always possible.

Ok so here is a question / plea for help. I'm having some graphic issues. I've tryed messing with the graphic settings with both basic and advanced setting and even trying all resolution settings. tryed even maxing everything but the game still looks blurry. The immage doesnt seem as sharp. funny thing is in the beta i had to turn settings down to get a decent frame rate but the image was sharp, now i can crank it and i can see all the detail and "stuff" in the enviroment i want without to much issue but its blurry! lol like wtf? the only thing i dont think i've tryed is something that was metioned ealier about half resolution setting. don't remember seeing that.

this is what im running if i can recall:
    intel core 2 quad @ 2.4gh
    3bg ram (ddr2 i think, dont remember)
    radeon x 1650

so ya i problably need a new graphics card cuz it is old as hell but what i dont get is why the game looked better before the head start and i'm trying to get a sharp image again even if i can't have the effects cranked, i don't really care i just dont want my eyes bleeding from looking at a blurry immage. so does anyone have any ideas/suggetions?

Could you take a pic when the servers come back up, and post a dxdiag log if poss?

i'm thinking half resolution might be enabled, but a screenshot would let us know for sure.

I have more than adequate hardware, with an 8800GT and a triple core Phenom II running at 3.5ghz, but I think the point is the game's graphics do not justify the performance issues we are facing. WoW is a beautiful game, EVE is a beautiful game, both run perfectly on my machine. Hell even ME2 is maxed out and runs well. The problem is STO is not meant to be demanding, and Cryptic needs to address the issues we are experiencing. I'm a patient person and will gladly play STO for as long as it satisfies me, but lag, rubber banding, skipped frames, and choppy audio really takes away from this game. Either way, I want to see either vastly better effects, or smooth gameplay.

It's still barely launch, I don't understand why it's so hard to wait a bit. WoW and every other MMO for that fact had horrible game starts. Rubber banding is always gonna happen. and Cryptic is addressing issues, hence the down time. Hence the maint. If you don't think there addressing issues, you aren't patient. Nothing happens in a blink of an eye, especially with coding/modeling.
