Yes, this is quarterly infrastructure maintenance. This is already starting 2 hours before regular maintenance usually begins. Complaining about when maintenance happens is not going to change things. Maintenance downtimes are an FCT topic. If you want an answer about it, check there, but it's not up for discussion.

Thanks for pointing out that it is server hosting side and that nothing can be done on anyone's end.
Having said that, perhaps you could escalate to you superiors and then from them to the managers a +1 day prolonging of the q winter event per a certain amount of time that prevents players from playing it? It would definitely help DECA gettin on the good side of our players. THANK YOU in advance no matter what. have a good day.

Stupid question, but where is FCT?

I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

I realize that down time sucks but it's going to happen from time to time. So long as everything goes well today, we hopefully shouldn't see another extended down time for a few months. No matter what time of day they do it, someone is going to be prevented from playing, so they have to just roll with it and go. They may extend the time and they might not. However even if they don't folks still have plenty of time to get the ship and other goodies. Trust me when I say you would rather them do an extended down time once every few months or so vs the alternative.
"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again." - Jean Luc Picard in Star Trek Generations
Not that I'm complaining, but as a frequent "morning user" and not-so-frequent "evening user"... Downtimes often have a more devastating effect on my ability to enjoy the game. With all the timing constraints within the game, I believe you should be compensating for downtimes; this isn't me demanding anything, just stating that an 8 hour downtime today means I won't get to play until sometime after midnight, which is after the Dil reset, my reputations will sit completed for over 10 hours, my duty officers won't be doing anything, my event progress is stunted (furthering my Dil shortage) etc.
I realize that downtime is part of any game, but most notable companies take this into consideration and offer free extensions as part of compensation. An example of this would be "hey, we're sorry we took our game down for maintenance; here's a free super charge boost to your next 6~ R&D studies to auto-complete." "have a daily cap on Dil refinement on us.", and "You're next completion in any Reputation grants double reputation."
I only bring this up; because one of the main "complaints" about this game is the time gating. It was one of the only things I was warned about before I started playing. "Enjoy the grind, or open your wallet".
I'll be asking the CM about possibly extending the event due to the extended downtime, but I can't guarantee anything.

As much as I would enjoy an STO version of Apologems (friend and I use that to refer to Saint Quartz given to players in FATE/Grand Order when they do maintenance) I don't see them giving away Dilithium as an apology for downtime as... we're kinda in an Economic situation with the Dilithium Exchange and lack of overall Demand for the resource affecting the Exchange. But that is a subject for another thread.

The only compensation I personally would expect IF POSSIBLE is an extra day for the event .
Other than that I cant imagine anyone giving anything for compensation such as what was suggested.
Also Is ARC doing maintenance today as well as STO?

We're checking on that with the new CM
Honestly any kind of Apologem thing would have to be something equally useful to all. Bonus Rep or R&D doesn't work for everyone if their rep and R&D is at max. Dilithium is dicey due to the current economy, and GPL is just straight up useless right now as a currency other than getting the latinum trophies and Subspace Party Nullifiers. (Opinion on GPL)
Its... possible? As I don't use ARC really I can't say if they are down for maintenance as well or not.

There's been no annoucement for ARC maintenance, but all Cryptic games are down for quarterly maintenance.

I agree in that vein, however, moreover the issue is the timeliness of everything; not being able to exchange Dil for the day is my own, unique circumstance. The suggestions given were just examples of things that could be offered; as an 8 hour maintenance is, in the real world, a complete day at the office; meaning anyone who works opposite hours; students of night shifts, etc. are put out not just the 8 hours, but an entire 24 hour cycle. In any game (STO is what I refer to as a 20 hour cycle) that has time gates for daily progression, this is beyond just frustrating.
Again, I understand that downtimes exist, and things need to be done; but you're not wrong, and it's a little off-topic, but Dil allocation is simply just weirdly implemented, to the point where in early-mid game, missing a single day can be fairly devastating to account progress, whereas in end-game, you don't really feel the same pressures. That's a design flaw imho, and more effort should be put towards balancing that aspect of the game, but again, a topic for another thread.
The suggestions listed were simply examples of things that -could- be done, which impact players that are progressing through the time gated portions of the game; of which, an 8-24 hour stoppage impacts quite a lot.
What will happen, IF anything, is that the event will be extended a day. Historically, no other "compensation" is offered.

I understand that. And I'm kinda in the same boat when it comes to the DL Exchange being slow. Brainstorming ideas is great. Just... be aware of some... realities. As much as I hate to admit it, until we get a viable sink people like that can sustain, its gonna be messy on that front for a while.
Anyways yea that can be its own debate in another thread.

I actually have a practical fix for the dil market but i doubt verry much that it will get implimented esp since too many people would take full advantage of my idea if ever impimented so i will leave that hornets nest alone .
8,5 hours is not that bad. Sometimes it is difficult to implement things, in code which is older, as it is by time getting not as easy to decypher. Better longer maintenance, and done correctly then hurried operation with consequences for days.
Players are customers. Don’t hesitate to express to the developers what features or content you’d love to see in the game—things that would encourage you to spend more time playing. Even if your posts are removed from the forums, it’s important to share your thoughts. This game is fantastic and deserves both love and a community that treats it with care and passion.

I agree. It's not the end, lol. I've gone months at a time not playing, a few hours isn't going to kill me

Events already have an extension baked in to account for maintenances. When there is an unexpected maintenance, then extra time is given. This maintenance is nothing out of the ordinary, and happens on a quarterly basis.

Even so I think the Devs tend to give us an extra day if maintenance takes most of the day regardless of it being ordinary or not as we're still unable to play during said maintenance.

I don't remember them ever doing that for a planned maintenance. They've only given extra time for extended/unscheduled maintenance as far as I remember.
