digital compilation starship ship trait not working on pilot escorts

Can't find delete. Please disreguard I've just noticed the exotic damage element that's needed to trigger it.
I've only recently started using this ship trait and love it. However I've just mastered one of my fed pilot escorts and noticed it didn't fire the plasma balls on destruction of ships once.
Current ship in question is the Tactical Pilot Escort. Not sure if others are affected. I've tried the usual log out and change instances and so forth but can't get it to trigger on this particular ship. I've been doing TFO's and Patrols and trigger only requires a Frigate class ship.
