I got the new Dyson ship, created a new toon so I could have one who's fully dedicated to flying that ship. With the experimental weapon from the ship itself and the Pahvo set, I've still got four empty weapon slots that I'm not sure what to fill with.
What I'd like to know is: are there any plans to release more Proton weapons?
I'm aware the Protonic Polaron weapons exist, but I'm not really a fan of those. So if there are no plans for more Proton weapons, I'll likely use something else, like torpedoes or some other energy type.
But it would be of great help to know for sure, before I'm going to collect a lot of gear, only to replace it in the near future with possible new Proton weapons.

It's unlikely that new proton are added. The recent proton addition were a teaser for the Dyson bundle and the bundle itself.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Slot the...
Dyson Proton weapon from Dyson rep. + The Dyson torpedo for the set bonus.
Pavao Torpedo in the front.
Terran Disruptor Reputation beam or Discovery Disruptor reputation beam
That covers your fore hard points.
Pavo Omni in the back + Undine reputation disruptor heavy turret
You can then use the Five Magiks and Dragon flame console to buff Disruptor and your EPG stuffs. IF you slot one of they Undine consoles you get the cat2 disruptor buff from the 2pc. The Pavo proton torp does very nice dmg with spread. You could use something like the entwined ship trait to use FAW and CSV1... and keep spreads coming. If you use the terran beam you can use the terran console for the torp cool down and buff. If you use the discovery beam you can use the lorca console for the CRTD buff. (OR you can just go 3 torps in the front and slot the Dark matter torp to get the 2pc instead of the beam)
Possible, but highly unlikely.
It is more likely that either pure electricity or radiation weapons are inbound.

I've been wanting to see proton become an actual energy type for awhile now and not just a few one off weapons. making proton a full fledged 7th energy type would go a LONG way to shaking up some established metas that have existed for far too long and breath some new options into builds for people.

Don't get me wrong, a full new damage type with all the accompanying weapons and consoles would be nice.
However the odds of that happening is remote at this time.

While it's true protonic polaron weapons can pop a proc for proton damage, it's not the same thing as actual dedicated proton weapons. idk if or when we would ever get more proton weapons but they really should make it the 7th energy type.

With turnover at the team, and a new team coming, I don't think we can assign any probabilities. As someone coming in could say "Hey, that's a cool idea!" and run with it regardless of whatever any past dev said on the topic. The benefit from a dev perspective is that proton represents a new lateral expansion of the weapon roster that would compound investment in new gear. Not only with a full proton weapon set require buying and upgrading those weapons, but you'd need an all new console set to boot. Cue greater player resource expense than normal for a given weapon pack, as well as engagement with whatever system gives those consoles (ex. fleets).
You can say that it could upset the balance of existing proton gear to allow it to be buffed further, but the general consensus of the consoles is that they're underpowered (from what I've seen) and while the protonic omni+torpedo can be good, they can also see a slight nerf in time with a major protonic overhaul if that's a problem.
Basically, it's low hanging fruit for weapon expansions, and for DECA to be actively exploring porting the game to Unreal engine (still very unlikely given technical hurdles but shows their thinking)...they could easily reverse longstanding practice and make proton a full weapon set. We just don't know how/if/when this topic will be revisited (so, up from an "unlikely given balance of probabilities" to a full "?????????" We could see this kick off in a 2024 lock box for all we know or random system update to crafting/fleet stores.)
These days, precedent based arguments are very, very limited in their application. See the hard no that once was a species change token.

I had actually forgotten about that, thanks for the reminder.
