Crowdfund a new game engine.

Watching 10 Forward this week and they stated that they couldn't justify the cost of developing a new game engine. To make it profitable might be a good idea to see if you can crowdfund it. I think there's enough player base here that is willing to put some money into helping to offset the cost of developing a new engine for this game. It was stated that they believe it will cost at least 10 million to do so and maybe we can help a little bit. You can always try and see how much people are willing to invest in this game. I am a lifetime subscriber and I would not be surprised if other lifetime would be willing to put some money into the game to improve it. I am by no means a whale I don't buy every single thing in this game but putting $50 into a crowdfunding I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Look at Star Citizen and that's an unknown IP. Star Trek Online is a proven IP and all the reviews I read about it said the number one thing they don't like about the game is that the game engine is outdated. They love the gameplay and the fact that you have Star Trek actors delivering new content you have a winner here you just need to find a way to spend money to develop it. To make it fresh.

I just looked this up you have enough of a player base that if people just gave $10 each to develop a game engine it would be worth it. And you know they'll be players who are going to give more than that.

Nope. This is FCT material. Point 12. Kickstarter Threads.

If you were also paying attention, they said it would not only require them to totally rebuild the entire game, which would take at least years, and they also specifically said you would NOT get better graphics either.

They also said the engine something is built on is practically irrelevant in this day and age, and that it only mattered in the 90's.

It's not just the cost of a new engine, STO as it is would likely see a halt to all development for years.

As much as I've found myself prepared to spend on this game, I'm not going to put in money only to wait months or years for a game that has to be built again - and might not even be finished, given all that's going on in the gaming industry.

I doubt many players would be interested in this, simply because it is too unclear whether they'd ever get something in return.

I think people also over estimate just how much a change in engine would change short term, sure over a long time it might change a lot but you're not gonna get sto looking like a Single player AAA overnight with a just an engine swap.

I think you're overestimating how many people would be willing to fund this. As the others have said, the game would have to shut dow, probably for years, just to do the code over again. It's not as simple as taking the code they have and plopping it onto a new engine.

I'm one that probably couldn't even afford ten. I have diabetes and my insulin costs almost 300$. So I just play and get all the freebies I can. It's not like one needs the highest-end stuff to get through content.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

I don't believe what you're saying is factually correct.

    Nobody said this.

The game would NOT have to be shut down for years to redo the code. That would be silly.

This wasn't said, only that it would take, potentially, years.

This was addressed in the livestream yesterday. And this is FCT territory as mentioned above.
