After completing all tasks of a recruit (e.g. Delta), both the symbol from the character selection menu and the tab from the character menu do not disappear, even though they no longer have any further function... I find this disturbing in terms of design and meaning.

So wouldn't it be good if there was a way to remove the icon and tab without having to delete the character, which of course no one wants to do because a lot of work has been put into it at this point?

    Why?
Where there is a Will, there is a Way.

... like the fifth wheel on a car, no one would want it and no one has ever had it. If pizza was offered in the past but is no longer available, wouldn't the provider remove the pizza sign?

If a character starts out as a special Recruit they always are one, whether or not they have completed the special tasks or not is irrelevant to their status.

IIRC the recruit status provides some benefits that are passive and will not go away with the tasks, IIRC during recruitment events you still get the +dil even with recruits that were not made during that event if they got the correct status.

Thank you for the tip! That can help me reconcile the situation a little ;) Does this only apply to Delta recruitment or to others too?

It applies to all of them. Also, sometimes they add (or change) missions, etc., to the recruit-device (it has happened so far with Delta and Temporal for instance) which in turn generates an additional (and sometimes different) reward for completing it.

Every car I've ever been in has had FIVE wheels - that fifth one is essential!

... even six with the spare wheel in the trunk. But if the steering wheel were on the outside, like that thing up there? :D
