Upgrades not applying to items

Hiya

Been asked to rise this issue here.

I've done a couple of item upgrades and once I leave the upgrade screen, the upgrade I just did, no longer applies to said item. The process of upgrading goes through without issue, but when I leave the screen the item is back to its previous state/value/quality.

I did an upgrade to my 'Polaron Dual Cannons Mk XIII [CrtD]x2 [Dmg]' on my ship named D.V. Oblivion-134 a couple of nights ago. Its DPS was rated at 897.4 and with the upgrade it was set to be 1016.7 DPS. Completed the upgrade...nothing applied. Same with an upgrade I did this afternoon to my 'Polaron Dual Beam Bank XII [CrtH] [Dmg] x2' (screenshots attached).

I've had this with several item on both my characters' ships.

You have to fill the upgrade bar to upgrade an item that is below Mk15. Just applying one upgrade will not upgrade an item in the majority of cases.

Just to expand a little on what leemwatson says:

It's also worth noting that if you craft some MK II weapons, you'll have a bit more success in upgrading the quality along the way.

As the other guys say you'll need multiple upgrade tokens to fill the tech points bar when the item is a high mark already, like the MK XII weapon in your screenshot.

CasualSAB's Youtube guide to upgrading might help with knowing when to use each type of upgrade token and accelerator efficiently and on which items of a particular mark level. That's assuming you don't have access to any Omega Upgrade tokens.

He's on PC and moves though it quite fast, but the principles on when and how to use them best are the same on console...

I have this issue too. I cannot however create a new discussion until I post something first as this is my first time on the forums.

I must have used at least 19 phoenix upgrade tokens on a romulan plasma turret to upgrade it to Ultra Rare but as soon as I “claim” the item, everything reverts back to the previous upgrade and my tokens are consumed.

Still.. its a drop in the bucket. I love this game :D

Filling the Technology Points will guarantee a MK upgrade, but only gives a chance at a QUALITY upgrade.
Getting the MK upgrade usually resets the QUALITY upgrade bar.
Once an item is at MK XV, you can continue to upgrade it without the QUALITY bar resetting.
Each time you fill the TECHNOLOGY bar, the chance of the QUALITY increasing will continue to grow. If the QUALITY of the item increases, the bar will reset, but it will not reset if the QUALITY of the item remains the same.

As Inferiority says the Technology Points progress bar gives a Mark increase when the bar is full. It then resets to zero, but carries over any unused Tech points from the last upgrade token you applied.

In contrast, the Quality progress bar increases much more slowly using Phoenix upgrades and whatever the bar shows gives only that percentage CHANCE of a quality increase. No guarantee. As you've found, you can sometimes burn a lot of Phoenix upgrades trying to increase the quality without success.

Once your item is at MKXV, you can help mitigate this by also using either a 1.5x (green) or a 2x (blue) Research Boost Accelerator along with the Phoenix upgrade. These drop from R&D packs or can be bought on the Exchange. Using these will help increase the quality chance progress bar a little faster than Phoenix upgrades alone.

Also, if you can it's best to wait for an 'upgrade weekend event' as during that period you'll get twice as many tech points and quality chance increase from every upgrade token/accelerator you use. This helps to get the most out of the upgrades you have.

Most of the time I find the quality usually increases once the progress bar is somewhere between 10% - 20%. Of course, it can go earlier if you're lucky, or later if you're unlucky.

It's a pretty convoluted system, one which I completely ignored at first when I started playing. I just used some of the MKXII weapons that came from Reputation boxes for a long while. I finally got to grips with the upgrading after much reading about how to do it efficiently.

It should also be noted that it's easier to upgrade the quality of a low mark item (ideally MK II) than a high mark item. That's probably a discussion for another time though!😉
