For having been around so long, I am really surprised this hasn't been addressed sooner. I'm no expert, but this seems like a texture issue where transparent has become black somehow.
All graphics settings are maxed out.
EDIT: You can now disable the beam visual using SRS VERTIGO.

My suggestion is to fix it.
