Control Problem

bunbun299bunbun299 Member Posts: 9 Arc User
For a very long time now, my main character in STO, Serena, has been suffering from a bug on Ground Maps. The B button on my controller, instead of a standard melee or using the extra effect of certain ground weapons, will activate one Kit Module and one Device. I can kinda manipulate which device & Kit Module by the order I equip them in, but even stripping everything away does not fix the problem. Resetting controls to default has no effect on this either.

I have reported this previously, but the problem persists nearly a year & a half later.

Just asking this to be sure. You didn't set up some of your Kit powers to auto activate? Many of the kits can be set to auto-execute whenever possible in the radial menu. Thus when you go to Red alert mode becuase of using your melee attack they will pop. Check by holding the left bumper or x button and moving the radial to the power that keeps turning on. Check to see if an activation condition has been set. You can change the condition by clicking the right bumper while the radial is over the power in question.

I set up my Kit modules to Auto Execute all of the time, across 11 character. The other 10 do not have this problem. Hell, the Lightning Ball Kit Module from the Risa is set to Auto Execute, and it still activates from pressing the B button, rather than my Melee Attack or whatever extra function my equipped weapon is supposed to have.

Hey, someone else with this problem! See my post "FIRING BUTTONS ACTIVATE DEVICES OR ABILITIES INSTEAD OF FIRING". My secondary fire (right bumper) and B button are also functioning as you're describing. My issues cropped up after connecting a keyboard up and idk how it really happened. Did you happen to do the same?

Actually, yes. I have a Keypad plugged into my controller. I found it can activate the PC menu. It was after this that my problem started. Though I have a friend who also plays STO a lot who tried to recreate the same problem, and was unable to with his own keyboard.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, I just haven't been checking the forums.

I've taken a while to reply myself, so no worries there! Interesting to see at least we have the same issue. What you describe is exactly what has happened to my character, except it is affecting primary and secondary weapon fire in addition to the B button (which should be melee attack).

I don't think it happened directly as a result of just opening the PC menu. It's some combination of having it open plus pressing the controller buttons in some mysterious way. I tried to recreate on a throwaway character and only just opening the PC menu (and then closing it) didn't break it.
