Lockbox Key Progression

shrimphead2015shrimphead2015 Member Posts: 536 Arc User
I remember seeing something like that in the forums that if you keep opening boxes, you eventually build up enough progression to get the high end prizes from the lockbox and that there would be some sort of way to track your progress. Has that been abandoned or is it still in the works?
"There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life." - Ten Bears (Will Sampson)

I never knew that was even a thing, here I have opened up a lot of them and nothing. maybe its that hidden luck trait?

They did this on Neverwinter but I haven't heard of it coming to Star Trek online. There it takes opening 250 boxes to get a guaranteed top prize.

I never heard of that on STO. When you open a box you have a % chance of getting the grand prize, but no kind of progression guarantee. Only a % chance with each box.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

It is very unlikely this was added without ever announcing it. You probably read this about Neverwinter or that they were thinking about it / "looking into it" (but not promising it) in one of the livestreams.

It's almost certainly still just a 1 in 250 chance for lock box keys, 1 in 100 chance for promo packs with every key a separate dice roll with no memory of past rolls.*

( * those odds come from past mass testing of keys and packs on both the live servers and holodeck, Cryptic has never announced the exact odds )

Yeah, this was mentioned during a livestream after the system had been announced and gone live for Neverwinter. At the time, Bort mentioned that they were looking at the metrics associated with it, but there were various factors to consider when analyzing the data, if they were to consider adopting it for STO. The topic hasn't been brought up since to my knowledge.

Every time you open a lockbox they have a gnome employed who cackles and giggles at you as he decides whether or not to award you a high end prize, he is mean and petty and out of spite gives you the lamest item he can give just for the fun it gives him to see your face go red with anger. 😁

You mean like the ones the ISPs used to employ way back in early no-recovery dialup days to watch for long downloads and hit the disconnect button just before they finished?

The very same, once dial up was discontinued these gnomes needed something new to utilize their unique abilities 😁
