Fake STO News Post

Just posting this here because a ton of folks have sent it to me today. There's an image that looks like a screenshot of an official STO news post floating around that says the game is shutting down. This was an April Fool's joke posted on a player's private Reddit, that quickly spiraled out of control. Please do not take it seriously, we're continuing to work on the issues that cropped up today, and STO is going nowhere. :)

    Maybe its the changelings trying to create further unrest..
    Maybe if we can get a hold of the current U.S.S. TITAN they may be able to help eliminate them like we just saw in episode 8 of Picard... ;)

    Yeah I seen that and it probably was fun... for them.

    I didn't think it was funny.

    The reason is simple, because I could actually see that happening. Areas of the game have already been removed because of "Legacy Code". It wouldn't be much of a stretch of the imagination to see an announcement like that explaining why the game is being shut down because of other parts of "Legacy Code".

    I had a lot of respect for that particular armada since I actually had a toon in their Alpha fleet a couple years ago, but if they find that amusing, my respect for them has gone.

    Last time I checked, April fools jokes were on April 1st. This "fake" news seems to have been made on April 5th. Maybe it was a joke. Seems terribly elaborate for a joke. But I suppose, the more work put in, the better the comedy payout. (shrug) Been a lifetime sub for a good while. I love the game but I have had the value repaid 200x plus.

    Again, not done by anyone at Cryptic, it was made by someone within a Fleet within the game.

    I think the joke is on us since we can't even get in to play. On a holiday weekend at that.

    Ok, folks, this isn't a discussion or reporting thread about the current outage. This is about the fake news article a player made about sunsetting the game. As this is really more about informing y'all that it was indeed fake, a discussion isn't really necessary, and it's now splitting outage discussion between threads. So, I'm closing this for that reason, and let's take the outage discussion back to its own thread. Thank you. /thread
