Why is Ker'rat the only open pvp area?

PVP in Kerrat is the equivalent of a level 60 anything going to the starting areas of Warcraft and ganking newbies.
and @baddmoonrizin I think you probably SHOULD FCT this paticular subject. by the FCT definition, Devs have stated they are not going to try to fix it.

I'll second the suggestion of making this an FCT.

The devs have responded to it several times and quite frankly these threads follow pretty much the same formula all the time, someone demands a response from the devs as to when PvP will be "fixed", people tell them what the devs have said on the subject, but since the response isn't PvPer wants they demand that dev responds to them personally thinking they can somehow change the response that way.

Sometimes we might even get arguments that official response the devs have given is just the opinion of the "PvP haters in this forum" like implied earlier on this very thread.

Being killed in one shot by a player with 9x my power level is not broken pvp. That's mmo pvp. Nothing wrong with it.

...and you have killed your own argument, and argument for PvP dead with that single sentence.

What's funny to me is that 2 of the most popular MMOs either have moved away from that style of PvP or didn't even have in the first place. WoW (which yes even with recent losses is still most likely the second most popular MMO) has been moving away from open world PvP towards instanced PvP and the current king FF14 never had open world PvP to begin with.

In current retail WoW it's extremely hard to find an opponent who is so much more powerful then you that you have no chance to beat them and newbie baiting has for all intents and purposes died off (at least on the server I played) since you can no longer force someone PvP active without their consent.

In FF14 all PvP is instanced and gear (and levels) normalized so there's no major power level differences from player to player (there's balance issues yes but those are more class (or job as they're called in FF14) related then gear and even then there's no class that makes you utterly impossible to beat).

So the MMO developers themselves seem to think that utterly unbalanced (open world) PvP is not the way to go. So rather then supporting the OP the market itself seems to reject the idea that major differences in power levels between players in PvP is a good thing or at least normal.

Forced PvP seems to kill alot of games, especially when they are P2W games. Instanced/permission-based PvP is a kinder way to encourage play, but still, I hardly know anyone that PvP's here. Normalisation of gear would work in STO, but the amount of work required to program 13 years worth of equipment must be beyond any reasonable gain that the few would get. Shame the OP and his other friend (who got a ban) cannot accept it.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

To quote Robert Heinlein, who was discussing movies at the time:
When someone asks, "But why don't they--", the answer is almost always, "Money."

There just aren't enough PvP players in STO to support more open-world PvP locations. Most of us don't get our jollies from shooting at one another, but rather from shooting alongside one another.

This. This is why I never PvP. I would rather work with other players in a team rather than shoot at them, trying to kill them.

By the same token, I have nothing against other players enjoying the PvP experience. They're as free to engage other players all they want. The thing I'd like to be added maybe is a warning when someon clicks onto Ker'rat, not knowing it's open PVP. "Warning: This is an open PvP area. Enter at your own risk."
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

That is hardly surprising, people in general don't like to loose and force PvP (especially the style the OP in championing) creates a group "old timers" who are so much more superior to newbies that newbies won't have chance against them and that's why most new players will quit rather then try to climb the ranks to be even viable in combat, while P2W is a label thrown about too lightly these days yes true P2W games tend to die because most people simply don't have the funds to keep up and thus the game becomes "not fun" to them, the few people that either have the funds or don't care going broke to win at video game aren't really enough to pay for the operating costs.

I suspect that the reason why the OP and his friends don't want to accept Cryptic's answer is that they love being the unbeatable "old timers" and the answer they seek is a way to funnel cheap victories to them, not realizing that no-one's forcing anyone to play STO and once the PvE focused majority thinks the game is no longer fun to them, they'll leave and with them the money they bring to the game.
