Issue with Junior Officer Appreciation event

While attempting to take part in the event using my Federation Captain, I was unable to defeat ANY hologram that was summoned when interacting with a particle. I tried different weapon types, different damage types, guns, melee, kit abilities, even getting other players or NPCs to attack the hologram, but it was immortal apparently. I reduced it to 0 hp quickly, but it didn't despawn, just kept attacking me. I managed to complete the event once for a very rare reward by running to the other side of the map, but it took me over 2 hours to do so, while on my other 2 characters I completed it quickly. However, I wanted to complete it multiple times on my Federation captain as he has no very rare duty officers. Below is a link showing the issue:
