'X has acquired an epic prize token'

Why should other people be informed of this when they are bound to that player's account?

Please disable. (Yes, I know there are settings for this but they're general settings for all similar messages - even the ones that could be useful).

Probably piggybacked off the lockbox notifications. And honestly I don't see how the lockbox notifications are useful so I got mine turned off.

After winning a ship a few times, people have contacted me whether I was interested in trading.

I wasn't, but for those who are interested in offers I can see how it adds something. With the Phoenix packs however... Those ships cannot be traded so I can't think of a scenario where it's useful information to anyone else.

I would imagine to entice others to give it a go themselves and try their luck. 🤷‍♀️

Yeah I thought of that too - but honestly, I doubt that it would work.

I mean, players know that they have a chance of getting an epic token. The fact that someone else won isn't telling them that their own chances of winning just improved or something like that. Personally I've never thought 'let's go open some boxes because random person X has won something after opening who knows how many boxes'.

It's an ad - "you should spend resources to try to win _________ like this player got".
They will never shut it off for all.

But yes, you can shut if off, just for yourself.

I won a T6 ship a week ago and was insta-messaged by someone looking to buy. Problem was, he wouldn't take no for an answer - started at some pathetic offer like 500,000 ec and kept ticking it up by 20k. I eventually felt obliged to block him.

However, the fact that this person was so immediate and so ruthless makes me think he does this all the time (and that at least a significant number of the people he messages fold).

But, yeah, not sure how my personal little "yay" was his - or anyone else's - business. I think Cryptic believes that the notification encourages people to gamble... but I don't even notice them anymore.

Yeeeaaa... that does sound like he was hoping to harass you into giving in and taking his lowball offer. Honestly I would have probably just shot back with "1.5 Bil ECs or no deal." Either that or "What's the current market value for this particular ship?" after actually looking it up.

But that kind of behavior really sounds like their strategy is "irritate until they give in", which is really scummy IMO. Especially if they're trying to weasle a T6 ship for FAR BELOW market value. Far as I know there is literally NOTHING that low. Think T5s are around 5 mil at the cheepest, but T6 ships? 300 MILLION at LEAST. 500k is bonkers.

I originally thought it was probably a way of promoting the gambling aspect but in hindsight I'm not sure it is. I mean let's be honest, we know how many people play the game and it's not like the thing pops up every second. Personally I rather like it, when I got my first T6 lb ship and my name got posted for all to see, I took it as a kind of reward. It felt good.

Only reason that message exists is to lure the more gullible players into burning money on gambleboxes.

Before I opted to boycott the store entirely I'd drop some of my LTS stipend on a key sale and have actually had ships which provoked similar messages being sent asking to buy for a pittance or pleading poverty to beg it off me.

And of course there is the question of whether the winners are legit or just plopped into game on a timer, I did once see one of my accounts appear while I was playing on the other.

I tend not to gamble, I buy keys, sell 'em and buy what I want. I do remember saving so much ec to get a Verne. Ps4... 4 months... not a single Verne on the exchange. So I did a 'stupid thing'. I bought keys and used them. Got my Verne after 16 keys and made a huge profit as a bonus. That's gambling. The tact that my name was on show? Yeah, it felt like a celebration, as most people will in a casino. If you buy something, it's not as cool as if you win something.
