I sort of assumed they moved it because the background is supposed to be changed as well, though I can't see why it would have to be in the middle of everything.
Either way the build number has to be visible somewhere for the odd cases where peeps can't log in because their client doesn't update correctly and thus end up running the wrong version. There's just no reason to have it in the middle of everything.

STO got along just nicely without the build information on the log in screen for years. It only showed up about half a decade ago...

I honestly never noticed until they changed the design of the character selection screen a couple years ago. But either way, it definitely does not need to be where it is now
