Cnidarian weirdness

I am wondering with the defender's weird stats and abilities make it hard to use in solo play at higher difficulties. with its speed and turning as well as general stats it should be a dreadnought or a flightdeck carrier. as with it's transformation console it's ability is only able to do damage when not in a team of fleet action. a fix would be another console or a rework of it's capabilities by adding hanger slots and custom Cnidarian support fighters or a console that functions like the Dominion dreadnought's gunship summon ability.

The devs probably want to keep the cnidarian closer to canon than that. Encounter at Farpoint was done while Roddenberry was still alive by the original TNG writers (the ones who included writers who were with Roddenberry way back on TOS in the sixties, and that Maizlish drove off by the end of TNG's first season), so there were no carriers or fighters in Trek at all at that point. Notice how all of the fighter stuff came after Roddenberry died? He was absolutely adamant that there was never to be fighters in Trek because an amped up shuttle would never have enough power to even scratch the shields of any full-size warship.

The cnidarians in the show had some sort of "phaser-like energy" bolt along with some sort of aura that was visible but with no obvious purpose but that could have something to do with their ability to absorb and manipulate energy and matter in their vicinity.

I would guess that the power that the STO ones have is based on that second ability and aura, though the one in the show was annoyed with the Bandari on the planet and not the ship next to them (Ent-D of course) so it didn't do anything but plink at the city next to the 'starbase' a bit.

I know from other threads that basing transporter effects on the ship instead of the faction is not practical, but this ship is one of the ones where I wish it was since the effect is so distinctively different from the hardtech transporters on the show and is a nice-looking effect besides.

I was thinking more a console or ability to summon or spawn two smaller versions of the ship so it has some self support units and the ability to use it's AOE transformation in solo alot better. as the ability only works with proximity to friendly ships for the hull heal function.maybe change the ship to a dreadnought category and have a support pod of others of it's kind be spawnable. as it stands the ship is definitely not a cruiser and its abilities as it stands are not suited for solo.
