So now that dilithium trading is basically dead and this "free-to-play" model that you based STO on doesn't work...., What's the fix Dev's?

Because waiting a month for some of my dilithium to sell isn't working

The Exchange is not dead, its just slow because we don't have the surplus of Zen that used to be on it years ago. As covered many times in many threads, its a complicated problem that does not have a magic bullet solution, and they are working on multiple things to address it.

Part of the issue is that all current dilithium sinks have a finite lifespan, and have mostly been exhausted. They're working various angles, but have not revealed anything concrete yet to avoid being seen as a promise in case things change along the way. So they don't want to say "we're going to try X" only to see something happen and do Y instead, and then get backlash over not doing X.

Its complicated, and even Cryptic admits the current state of the Exchange is not what they want either. But this can't be solved with just one thing. Its gonna take many things working together. A healthy economy is better for all, and they are working on it. Just because we're not being given running commentary on every step they take behind the scenes doesn't mean nothing is being done at all.

Without getting into any "blame", I'm just going to be brutally honest: the dilex is never going to be fixed. The situation is too complicated, and they have too many other priorities, it's simply not.going.to.happen.

The dilex is now on the same list as those Fed/KDF war missions that were removed and they have been saying for YEARS "we'd like to bring them back on day, but don't have any update/timeframe/etc". It's just not.going.to.happen.period.

So with all of that said, there are really only 2 options we have as players:

A: complain about it forever or

B: accept the sucky reality of the situation and move on.

I'm genuinely not trying to be a downer, just being brutally honest. And it's better to just accept the truth, IMO.

Until there is a long-term consistent demand for Dil and/or Dil sellers start to put Dil up for sale at less than 500:1 (because they want a 'quicker sale'), it isn't going anywhere. A quick fix, as Dev's have already said, isn't going to happen overnight.

Another possibility is that nothing is really being done and that no steps are being taken.

I'd have to agree with the opinion The Grand Nagus has offered...

The game remains free to play, including getting 4+ free T6 ships per year and enough dil to upgrade all your gear to Mark XV Epic.

What is now much harder to get for free is cash shop items that you WANT but do not NEED. That's very different from "doesn't work."

If those are the only options, I vote for complaining about it. Complacency isn’t going to improve anything. Cryptic is obviously complacent about it—the only reason they even talk about it is because the players are upset

There are ways to fix it, but most of them are ways Cryptic is not interested in. Another fleet holding is one solution. I think there are plenty of fleets that will never finish the holding we have. But the colony world was an effective sink.

Another solution is just print zen. People have to buy it anyway if they want the big bundles. Cryptic thinks of that solution as giving money away. And the libertarians and armchair economists on the forum will cry about “devaluation” and “inflation.” But it is fake money anyway. Giving some away will neither ruin the STO economy nor cripple zen sales…unless they want to be honest and realize a broken dil-ex does certainly drive zen sales. We have to make 2022 more profitable than last year, after all.

Other solutions—put high performance consoles in the zen store, traits, and all that filler from lockboxes that is overpriced on the exchange.

They "think" so because it is. Right now all of the zen on the exchange comes from other players who spent real-world money, so Cryptic got paid for it. If they add their own zen then yes they are giving away free money and giving up real-world sales.

We've discussed everything in exhaustive detail in many existing threads, so there isn't much point in rehashing it here.

I do agree that Nagus is probably right about the low odds of any good new dil sinks appearing any time soon.

The "fix" seems to be the Event Campaign meta-event. The around a year long grind for any 1+ year old Promo or Lockbox ship, 2 C/Z-Store ships that are out of the 'New' section (unless this requirement has been removed), or a pile of Lobi enough to buy any ship in that store plus extra. Most F2Pers wouldn't be able to grind out that much faster, if at all, in those kind of ships in that time frame. Without that, yeah, there would be a fair bit more people calling foul of this game being 'F2P' with the Dil Exchange taking weeks to go through at the rather high 500Dil/Zen (16Zen per character, at 8k refined per day).

The last livestream they did said they were going to introduce more items for Dil sales, in the vein of the somewhat successful Vanity Shields. Not much, but at least it's something more than them just saying that they're having meetings about it.
