Freezes and crashes

For the past several weeks the game has repeatedly been suffering from freezes and crashes. Once this happens, the game cannot be restarted. Instead, the Xbox provides the automated message "Please try again: for some reason STO took too long to start". The only way to open the game again is to reset the console. At that point the game may play for a little while, but usually within a short time , it shows signs of struggling. Images in menus will not load in, for example (such as pictures of items in the bank). At that point, the game invariably freezes completely mid-mission or during a load screen. The issue has gotten worse the past few days. Please help with any possible solutions. I don't have such problems with other games, though, I only play a handful, so that might not be a huge sample size. I'm playing on an older Xbox One and can provide model specs if that would help. I'm running through wi-fi.

Try uninstalling the game then re-installing it. If using the Xbox Series X make sure the game is installed on the faster internal drive, if it was already, then try installing a 2nd drive either the Seagate 1TB card or a usb external drive and install on to that to see if that fixes it. It maybe simply that some of the game files have become corrupted or fragmented.
