First Contact Re-Enactment captain duping/forced AFK penalty?

I don't remember this happening in previous years, but it's done it to me twice so far and today I saw it do it to a random. Upon loading into the map, instead of each captain's name by their color you'll instead see a duplicate name of another player and as the TFO progresses it will display a mimic of their parts pickups as well: https://i.imgur.com/tvQvpBe.png

The first time it happened to me I couldn't pick up any parts (the carrying parts icon/buff? never appeared over me), and it gave me an AFK penalty at the end. The second time I immediately quit and had to do it on another character, not sure if you can just keep trying in vain to collect things and not get AFK'd or whether you are forced to fail no matter what if this happens to you.

Happened last year and the year before as well, not a new issue. Never been given an AFK kick though. Run about and shoot things even if you can't pick up items. Sometimes the upgrading parts at the bench works to give you a better rocket, sometimes it doesn't. I fire off Exothermic and keep trying to gather things, and so far have never been kicked out for afk, not saying it won't happen just that so far it hasn't. I been on where 3 players names have all been the same and the other two also duplicated with each other.

This is most definitely not a new problem and it seems one they are not interested in fixing given how many years it has been going on despite being report numerous times.
