Error with several omnidirectional banks

schlesier#8918 schlesier Member Posts: 34 Arc User
edited March 2022 in PC Gameplay Bug Reports
I have the following omnidirectional banks from three different sources, but the combination of these does not work evenly
delphic - crate weapon
ancient - mission
R&D omni - manufactured

I can't use all of them together.
delphic + ancient
R&D + ancient
delphic // R&D

Why can't I use the last two together if they come from different sources?

It is illogical when there are three weapons from different sources, but only 2 out of 3 can be used together, because the first always excludes the third, despite different origins

    Always been that way.

I think lockbox omnis count as crafted and you can only ever use one of each -mission and crafted- together at any one time.

The only exception is the omega cutting beam, but that's kinetic.

it just doesn't make sense that things count as manufactured if they are from a box and have nothing to do with R&D

The limitations are, in fact, that you can equip one energy omni that is part of a set, and one that is not, period.
Confirmed - one of a set and one that is not.
The only way to get a third Omni equipped is to use the Kinetic Cutting Beam from the Omega Rep. It's not an energy weapon so doesn't count toward the set-part.

Once again a great example that the actual game does not explain how things work at all - aside from the generally superflous 'omni-directional beam' restrictions. They're just turrets...

I find this limitation pointless as well

does anyone else think the omni beams should be counted as turrets?

I can't help wondering why Omni's are limited in such a fashion. They're weaker than a regular beam array so equipping more would only be less useful.
I suspect the limitation of 2 Omni's is due to how beam weapons allow you to broadside effectively...?

I bet it's some ancient 'but PvP balance!' decision that makes no sense any more at the current state of the game, but tge mechanics to lift that restriction are too complicated or will break the entire game if touched. So they simply don't revisit the concept.

There isn't much to destroy there. Somewhere in the Star Trek Online databases there are certainly definitions of omnidirectional banks where there is certainly an entry for "maximum number" that needs to be removed

I don't know much about game development. But I'm almost certain that there is never just one number that needs to be changed, especially not in a game like STO.

trust me. anyone who has ever modified games such as star trek legacy, sins of a solar empire or hearts of iron can also assess what needs to be done in an entry for a weapon.

but before I start a new topic here that is probably a bottomless pit... the core of the matter here is that the omni beams have to be able to be used several times.

I don't know the logic behind the limit myself.

I have a turret build on a couple of ships and that thing is ferocious. Especially with CSV.

I believe it's an older "balance" limitation that has since outlived it's purpose due to power creep.
