Do you have an interesting backstory for your ship?

Something semi-inspired by the Blue phaser thread but I started wondering do people have backstories for their ships?

For example the ship for my main is named after her homeworld and is assigned to the alliance fleet/taskforce guarding that area of space as flagship.

Another example would the ship my TOS toon is flying that's suppose to be namesake for the Crossfield-class refitted after the war (so no sporedrive, granted I'm pretty sure only the USS Glenn and the USS Discovery had functioning sporedrives to begin with and beam style phasers) and pushed into service to fill the gaps caused by the war.

My main flies a Malem class with experimental temporal technology that was in development by the Tal Shiar.

My character staged a revolt of the Reman slaves and captured the ship to escape. The Tal Shiar caught up to us in the Virinat system and the ship destroyed. My captain was able to escape to the surface in an escape pod.

After joining Republic, the experimental tech from the wreckage was scavenged and incorporated into an refit T'varo.

Only a loose one for my Rommie and her Legendary Scimitar.

She used the Borg tech appropriated from the Tal Shiar and "adapted" (I'm here all week) it and retrofitted her Scimitar with it.

Trying to come up with a story behind why my Orion KDF gal got her hands on a JH Vanguard Carrier.

I stopped doing complex back stories a long time ago, partly due to disappointment with game limitations, and partly because I have too many damn characters now 🤣

Most of my characters just follow a theme, usually based on faction / era, though two of them are what I call "TOS remake" concepts. One commands the Legendary Discoprise, wears the JJ uniform, and uses the Undiscovered Country hand phasers. The other "TOS remake" character is a TOS style Klingon commanding the Legendary D7 with K't'inga parts, and wears the JJ Klingon uniforms but with TOS inspired coloration.

The only two that have actual back stories are my main, and my original delta recruit. For my main the back story changed over time, I forget most of the original idea except for his first officer. Before the game was released when they revealed that we would be able to customize our bridge crew I knew right away I wanted one officer who's species was unusual for Starfleet. Eventually I decided to make my first officer a female Romulan (which ultimately had to be aliengen, to my continued disappointment), with the explanation being that as a child she lost her parents when Romulus was destroyed and was taken in by an Andorian family, and decided to join Starfleet when she was old enough. The back story for the captain and the rest of the crew changed a few years later when I joined the USMC reserves, with the exception of the medical personnel they are now MACOs, not Starfleet, and the ship is now called the USS Tun Tavern NCC 1775.

My delta recruit is Dominion themed and was created before the Dominion faction was added. She is a Vorta leading a crew of Jem'Hadar, all of which fled the Dominion after becoming disillusioned with the Founders, and are now mercenaries working for the Federation. The medical officer is a denobulan geneticist who was hired to improve the captain's vision, cure the Jem'Hadar's addiction to ketrecel white, and bio-engineer a way for the Jem'Hadar to reproduce (I may drop this particular detail, I came up with it because I wanted to have one female Jem'Hadar and needed an explanation for her to exist, but aliengen Jem'Hadar look pretty bad next to real Jem'Hadar now).

I have a few. One character in particular names her ships after things from her home, and her primary ship is actually named in honor of the Goddess of Courage.

Nothing terribly intricate, but my Orion captain had his commission purchased for him by his Syndicate connections. The Imperial High Command kept assigning him junky little obsolete raptors, so his family bought a Blackguard-class war barge, OSS Khetanna, and gave him command.

Also I have a Romulan/Reman mercenary captain who works for D'Tan (although she became a bit more concerned with which side she was on after the Tal'Shiar kidnapped her and tried to reprogram her as their slave - she wants revenge). One of her regular expenses is upkeep on the Nie'rrh, a Bajoran interceptor she purchased and upgraded.

not backstories, no, but I have one captain in particular who tests every ship i acquire before other toons, so her backstory is that she and her command crew are basically Starfleet "test pilots", responsible for wringing out the lead ships

My first character, Cassy Morrison's ship, the USS Hoagland.

In my own head cannon (even more starting the game in 2014), the iconians are humanoid looking beings, feminine androgynous, both sexes are women, just different plumbing, Cassy is one of them. Like Superman and Son Goku, Cassy was sent in a small pod by her parents, during the bombardment of Iconia, to protect her. Her pod had a small de-materialization circuits, installed after her parents met 'the others', and it arrived on Porquartz, Cassy's would be adopted home world (it's deep in the Romulan Neutral Zone) in the 22nd Century. Porquartz had a human colony established on it, from one of the Conestoga colony ships.

Cassy would grow up learning about herself and eventually became an advisor to Starfleet and, with the 'goddess' (the station k-10 crew from my comic in the ten foreword section) would help end the Iconian war. Cassy, for the time being resigned from Starfleet, taking her new wife, the Andorian named Vanda, and began making plans to head back to Porquartz. During this time, seeing that Starfleet, being thankful for ending the Iconian war, would grant pretty much any request, asked a ship for her own personal use. Starfleet agreed, and Cassy chose a Constitution class, in the original configuration. (as she figured, if one is to get a ship, do with STYLE). Using her knowledge of Iconian tech, as well as from various other worlds, including Galifrey (she traveled with the Doctor a few times), Cassy began to upgrade the old ship, making it on par with modern ones. It's rumored she even used future tech. The ship can also be controlled by one person, akin to the Vengeance. When finished, Cassy lent it to the K-10 crew during the first contact with the Lukari and the time war. upon getting it back, Cassy and Vanda took the ship to Porquartz, and with diplomatic relations now open with Porquartz, this ship become the first of Porquartz's new planetary defense force. A series of older, decommissioned ships, as well as some dismantled starbases, were going to arrived as well, starting Starfleet presence in the Porquartz system, even the Klingon Empire send some assets as well.

The ship was named the USS Hoagland, named after Richard C. Hoagland, who is one of my personal heroes. (same story pretty much applies to my KDF version of Cassy, just that the IKS Hoagland is a K'tinga class. In fact, it was Gorkon's old Kronos One, upgraded and renamed).
