Warrior's Blood trait equipped, but not triggering?

I have the trait equipped, which says that melee kills grant me crit chance and severity, but there's no increase to either stat on the character sheet or on the buff bar. I've tried equipping and unequipping, logging in and logging out, and nothing's changed it.
