from redit.

The Terran bundles was, much like the 10th anniversary bundle, Thomas' baby. He had the idea/vision for the bundle, and pushed it through.

Ship 1: Adamant
  • Hector Ortiz/the ship staff did more concept art for the Adamant, then pretty much any other ship they have done, to get a design that looked right. One of the ideas ended up looking more like a modernized runabout. When doing the concept art for the mirror defiant Hector thought about old cassette/CD players, and how compact/tough they looked, wanting the Defiant to have that same look. Jokes about it being the Nokia phone of ships. The decoration on the front of the Mirror Defiant is based on Smokey and the Bandits eagle. The nacelles/front were made to look like a trident/something you can throw to give it an aggressive look. Wanted to conserve the shoulders on the Adamant compared to the normal Defiant. Talked about doing a rollbar for the Adamant, but it didn't need it.
  • Thomas is usually more conservative on how far hes willing to change ships, while Hector will usually got a bit further, but both wanted to do more for the Mirror Defiant given that player's already had several T6 skins for the Defiant.
  • The Adamant is the last ship Donny worked on for STO, finished by Moe.
  • Comes with agony quad cannons, and a battle cloak. Is a raider instead of a normal escort.
  • Trait "Wild Weasel" was an idea from Jessie Heineg. Named after a trait from Starfleet battles, a special ability that could launch a pet that did electronic warfare/messed with enemy sensors. STO trait creates a pet that taunts when using evasive maneuvers.
  • New experimental weapon based off of the Defiant shooting off a whole series of quantum torpedoes in the show multiple times. Not actual torpedoes, just look like them.
  • Ship console works by checking enemy health value every second, and using the difference to send damage to nearby targets. If an enemy can heal this console wont work because the health value won't be going down.

Ship 2: Earhart
  • When Thomas fond out they were going to put the mirror Engle into the bundle he used it as an opportunity to do a quality pass on the Earhart, and make a mirror skin for it. Added some details like a forcefield to the hanger bay.
  • The bundle only comes with the mirror version of the Engle. If you want to use the Fed version you need to get it from the Zen store.

Ship 3: Cygnus
  • Started off as the Andromeda remaster. Many of the changes on the Cygnus came from things Thomas was never happy with regarding the Andromeda, stemming from it being like the 3rd ship he made for STO, and it being done rather quickly.
  • Incorporated the battle axe style saucer from the Buran. Bussard collectors were done to make the ship feel more aggressive. Thomas always found something unsettling staring into a toaster oven and seeing the heating coils lit up, and 2001 a space odyssey when claiming through Hals's computer core.Secondary deflector on the saucer exist just because Thomas thought it looked cool. Galaxy class saucer can work as its own ship in lore, so if they wanted it to go to warp it would need its own deflector.
  • Originally intended for the ship to be named the Pegasus class, but that got vetoed due to the USS Pegasus in TNG, and that if they ever did a Pegasus class it should be derivative of the Oberth somehow. Pegasus name was a reference to the Pegasus galaxy from Stargate Atlantis.
  • Cygnus parts aren't usable on the Nebula/Gal-X.
  • Jeremy addresses user concerns about the ship console possibly being used in a trollish manner. Mentions it deals a lot of phaser damage so enemy may die instead of being unkillable, but they are looking closely at feedback to see if any changes will be needed. Doesn't work on some things like the Conduit in Infected because those things are flagged to be protected from many effects like this console.

Ship 4: Trailblazer
  • Terran version of warship Voyager put on the Pathfinder class. Its not something Thomas would have designed himself, but he knows a lot of players think throwing a bunch of guns on things is cool.
  • Curved deflector on the Pathfinder/Trailblazer was inspired by the Bellerophon, which was itself inspired by the Dauntless.
  • Pathfinder was the very first Starfleet ship Thomas work on for STO as a ship artist, and the first ship he designed himself.

Ship 5: Lexington
  • Thomas "Sometimes thats my big contribution to starship design. Put a pod on it! Everybody loves mission pods!" Same with rollbars.
  • Fans have asked for something similar to the Gal-X for the Odyssey, so the Lexington dred is that. Pod is like the third nacelle on the Gal-X, but a pod is used because its more functional. Has phaser lance/nacelle fins. Jeremy thinks the pod really breaks up the normally graceful Oddy class, and makes it feel more like something you don't want to get close too and adds to the personality of it being a Terran flagship.
  • Central mechanical design for the Lexington was based around "getting into the thick of it" Starship trait and console based around how many enemies are around you.
  • Minor error in the blog(Jeremy's fault). Jeremy originally intended to make new hanger pets for the Lexington, but ran out of time. The pets are just the normal Engle pets, which don't have the agony phasers mentioned in the blog.
  • Can use all of the old consoles in the Odyssey family.
  • Mission Pod/hull is one piece for customization purposes.

Other
  • Can't 3D print the new Terran ships due to the way they do the saucers.
  • Thomas doesn't personally want to fly Terran ships, so he makes sure all of them have a normal Starfleet version. Didn't want to lean so aggressively Terran that it didn't work as a Starfleet ship.
  • Jeremy recently opened up powers on these ships he made years ago and jokingly thought to himself "what the hell was I thinking"[when he made these]. (When Cryptic remakes/updates ships they redo the code on all the ship powers/abilities/consoles on the ship line to work better/more efficiently.)
  • The current event campaign will be adding the 2021 ships to the prize pool. Something like 14 new ships added.
  • Kael is the only one of the staff on the stream that likes the Yeager. Lots of Pathyeager/Mirror Pathyeager jokes.
  • Andrew Probert hates the Gal-X, and tore into it on an episode of Trekyards.
  • When asked about 5/3 on ships Jeremy says ships that don't have it don't need it. They aren't just going to put 5/3 on everything because some people want it. When it comes to ships with a family line they are more about creation choice, rather then obsolescence, with new versions.
  • When asked why certain ships aren't available in promo packs on Tribble, they intentionally keep Tribble packs and stuff behind in updates so they don't accidentally spoil themselves. Missing ships will be added someday.
  • Cryptic can't release an item database because theres lots of internal items they can't reveal. Pruning such a database to make it player usable is time consuming, and probably not in everybody's best interest.
  • Phoenix Box will be updated when Jeremy gets time to do it. There's business decisions about what can be added to the Phoenix Box due to sharing the same kinds of items as Mudd's Market. Jeremy hopeful sometime this year they can do something for the Phoenix Box, hopefully sooner then later.
  • New Mirror Uniform only available via the bundle. Bundle is breakable(wont be locked out of buying it if you buy any of the ships separately) but you won't get a discount if you buy one of the ships separately.
  • Jeremy says stay tuned for future livestreams when asked about changes to the "Gather Intel" ability.

Thanks for posting and thanks for (I assume) Som for taking the notes.

That's good to know since it could help server performance. As long as the fixes don't add new bugs.

Wild Weasel was introduced in the Vietnam war, not anything Star Trek.

Anyway, when Jeremy puts his Phoenix hat on maybe increase the drop rate to 1% at least for Epic tokens. Not like we can do anything with the ships anyway except use them......on ONE toon.

The Cygnus looks interesting, it corrects a lot of the features of the Galaxy class that were visually dull. Having the saucer separated-operation deflector exposed is a nice touch too, one that is in line with the trend of building the ships with lighter and lighter construction over time that is seen in Trek (the very spindly struts seen on the ENT-J could even have been more of a solid conduit for the various matter/antimatter and plasma streams instead of mainly structural).

In TOS the three big circles at the centerline leading edge of the saucer were not supposed to be windows, they did not have the equivalent of Ten Forward, they were supposed to be the armored hatch covers for the emergency deflector array that the ship needed for travelling at relativistic speeds on impulse without getting gutted by dust. In TNG they must have had those emergency deflectors on some other deck or off to the sides because they wanted to have a bar/lounge with the same view as the mainscreen (probably to save SFX budget) in the spot that the TOS ship had its emergency deflectors.

The TOS Constitution had an oldschool heavily armored hull at least a foot thick (9 inches of tritanium armor over a duranium pressure hull (of unmentioned thickness) according to a spiel by Roddenberry), a design philosophy that was apparently set aside when advancements in shields and structural integrity fields allowed them to toughen up the two-to-four-inch-thick hollow core composite construction hulls seen in later Treks to useful levels. Part of the speed increase between TOS and the later Treks is probably from how light the movie era ships are constructed in comparison to the TOS era equivalents, especially since "transparent aluminum" is probably a lot lighter than tritanium (which is said to be heavy compared to other hull materials like duranium).

I am not surprised that the devs don't like the Yeager. Even ignoring the "maquis raider" myth (the secondary hull is actually a freighter larger than the similar-looking ship class converted by the maquis (which is literally only seen for a second at the end of a communication), which happened to use the same model), the idea of using civilian hulls for warships in an emergency buildup is something that appeals mostly to WWII history buffs, and I get the impression there are few or none of those among the devs. It is a shame though since nothing says desperate construction rush in the face of a powerful enemy as much as the Yeager does in Trek.

Ok, this is good to know. Last time I had no idea which ship I really wanted, so I chose the S31 battlecruiser. While I do have a toon for who the ship is really appropriate, I haven't used it much. Some of the 2021 ships are definitely interesting though.
Jeremy hopeful sometime this year they can do something for the Phoenix Box, hopefully sooner then later.

I hope so too. There's not much left in them that I don't already have or still need, besides upgrades.

I disagree with pods being a good addition all of the times. Jeremy is right: the pod makes the Oddy less graceful. Cruisers should be elongated as the Oddy's are. Their features should be more modest along the Y-axis.

its more about boasting and patting themselves on the back really.

While I agree up to a point, what would you prefer they do, talk trash about themselves? I think there's enough trash talked about them on the forums, lol.

    Hahahahahahaha!

Yeah, right. It's totally this and totally not so tester-players can quickly check how the ships handle before attempting to get them/telling on reddit/forums how they fare before too many people buy the current iteration of packs.

Actually, they ALSO have a tendency to have new ships leak out. Remember they had on the ship vendor screen, they had the mirror skins for the bundle they released? They patched it up quickly because they had a specific plan to market them.

Those were on Holodeck and normal C-Store ships that won't cost ~$200 to acquire. And even if you can see them, you can't use them anyway, so it's a moot point.

This is the internet. At no point will there not be people being jerks. Even in real life people are jerks. However, 'because there are jerks' is not a valid excuse to not communicate. That contingent can be ignored and their complaints distilled down. What we can say for sure is that no interaction or no addressing longstanding issues is just disrespectful to the customers.

I'd argue that this is one of the issues present here; they have a pretty consistent history of acting like Politians when it comes to difficult questions, preferring to either sidestep the issue (talking, but actually saying nothing) or simply failing to address the matter at all.

Cryptic is hardly the only company that's guilty of this. Expecting otherwise because of the company's smaller size and the somewhat greater presence of actual talking heads will only lead to disappointment.

In the end, is it perfect? Hell, no. Can it be improved? Oh, definitely. Yes, the true endgame - Space Barbie - is problematic if you're of a Terran bent; yes, the DilEx is functionally worthless for obtaining Zen through non-money means. But can you play the game? That's all that ultimately matters to video game developers, be it Cryptic with this game or anyone else with their own product.
