you know what I'd like to see... Us being able to be on our bridge and setting a course from there... the ship moves through sector space on the view screen while we walk around our ship until we get there.
It's not technically feasible because the game engine treats your ship as your character while you are on space maps, so then you would have to be in two places at once.
I've always thought it would be possible to fake it by taking your ship's speed, distance to destination, and the length of time you spent on your bridge into account and changing your sector space spawn location accordingly when you leave your bridge (other people would not see your ship traveling though). At this point in the game's life it wouldn't be worth the dev resources necessary to program it though.

IIRC they explained that while technically possible to do so would demand them to redo how the game handles spawning.

That's actually addressed in the FCT post: the problem arises, where would it put you if you left early?
That's a basic word problem similar to stuff I had on tests in middle school. A train is traveling from point A to point B at 30 miles an hour, how far has it traveled after ten minutes? In this case it would be more like "A player is traveling from earth to Qo'nos at Warp 5, what percentage of the route have they traveled after 1 minute?" and then spawn them X% of the way between the two points. Like I said though this wouldn't be worth doing nowadays, it may have helped make bridges more useful in the early days but nowadays people would just transwarp everywhere anyway.

As mentioned above, this is an FCT topic. Please refer to the already provided link or the FCT thread on reasoning behind this.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!
