R.I.P. Foundry

i have been away a while, only to return and find, the foundry appears to be ... gone ?!?

it is sad. unless i am wrong. however, it appears as though the foundry is totally gone. nothing but a forgotten memory of great creators/writers long lost now.

i'm not sure who is making all the terrible decisions for the Star Trek universe, ....

this is just something i had to say, because, the foundry was actually one of the main reasons i use to play this game. what better experience, than to be able to enjoy lots of missions created by writers that , otherwise might never write anything ever again, depending on there situations in life of course.

i usually stay away from forums, when i started playing this game i was younger, lol , now i'm old in my opinion, too old to argue with anyone, no offense of course intended, ever. so i won't be reading any replies, however i am creating this discussion for all you wonderful star trek fans, who remember the foundry and want to say what ever you wish about it here, in memory of what it once was.

if You have great memories of the Foundry, please feel free to share them in this discussion.

my reason for creating the discussion here and not in the foundry area of the forum, is because this is general discussion, it is basically me asking everyone to post their good memories of the foundry here.

and lets keep it peaceful, Captains. After all, even a Klingon knows when to fight, and when to have peace for those things we miss of the past, such as the foundry.

God Bless You all.

Problem is the foundry kept breaking down and the original person(s) who worked on it are no longer at Cryptic

The Foundry while fantastic, presented some steadily escalating problems in a long term live game. Every major game update could and would break something. And could and would break existing player created content. In ever more complex ways, as the systems those pieces of content relied on were updates or had minor changes. The lighting 2.0 update was the final nail in the Foundry’s coffin. STO runs on spaghetti code, the Foundry was the worst of it. As an example of the sorts of things that went wrong with it, go run the Power Plant mission on New Romulus. The one with the lave caves. Last months patch included a major update to ship explosions. Somehow in making that change it did something catastrophic to the lighting effects of the lava. Hopefully it will be fixed soon, but looking at it will give some idea as to what types of stuff was happening to every piece of Foundry content. It just became an untenable mess.

Yea. Foundry unfortunately couldn't be maintained. By the time we learned of it, the Devs had been trying to find a way to save it for months with no luck.
As mentioned above, it broke every time they updated something. And it was taking longer and longer to find a fix, only for it to break again.

i'm so happy to see so many comments already thats great to hear from you all. :) im pretty shy person so i don't usually talk much, but i was curious to see what my fellow fans would say. that;s too bad about the foundry getting worse. too bad.

i really did enjoy playing everyones missions . they were the best ! i loved everyones missions, believe it or not, why? because it was fun to see everyones idea's, no matter what, for me, that was just wonderful. i love seeing the result of creative minds. not that i have a great memory, but i do remember how i felt. i really enjoyed playing all the foundry missions that i did play.

i don't know if i'll be back soon to the forum but i hope my fellow fans keep posting here, in honor and memory of Everyone one of You who not only created the foundry missions, but also played them as well, that everyone keeps posting their thoughts about the foundry here.

the foundry might be lost, but let us never let Them Forget , or Us !!!!

    Live Long and Qapla' !!!

    :)

Star Trek Online lost a good 60% of its interest for me since the Foundry was removed ; especially considering I was myself well-involved into the creation of my own series of missions (3 out of 6 had been published so far).
  • I would pay money to get foundry back.
