Players still bother with the Omega particle grind? You get better Upgrades by buy and converting Phoenix Boxes with Dilithium. Quicker and way less hassle, and with the Dil Ex in it's current state, what else is Refined Dil good for these days?
Except, Phoenix Upgrades are not "better" than Omega Tech Upgrades.

Actually, yes, they are:
Omega Tech Upgrades give:
A Base +25,600 Technology Points (Doubled on the appropriate Upgrade Weekend event)
Phoenix Universal Tech Upgrades Give:
A Base +51,200 Technology Points (Doubled on the appropriate Upgrade Weekend event)
Both have 0 Dilithium cost to use.
(So IMO here again, the Phoenix Upgrades are the better deal over the standard ones as you effectively 'pay' the Dil use cost up front in a sense and they give you way more tech points than the standard or Omega upgrades.)
(And yes, Omega does have a X4 chance to up the Item Quality Improvement chance; but honestly, that's not really a factor until your item is at MkXIV and you're 'going for Gold' - and hell, some items can never attain 'Gold' quality.)
Bit yeah I'll take double the points and ease to obtain over the Omega grind required to get an Omega upgrade.
Omegas are fine if you're willing to do the Grind and wait the insane amount of hours to do all the crafting steps required to convent; but IMO it's way easier to just use refined Dil directly and do a couple of mouse click to convert the Phoenix boxes to Phoenix Universal Tech Upgrades.
YMMV.

I've been doing the Omega event for the last couple of days as I wanted to get some of the rewards.
And I've noticed the same thing that I noticed years ago: the locations you get seem to be determined by the time you activate the mission. I just got the same three locations on two different toons. Years ago, I also did it exactly 24 hours later (instead of after 20 hours) and I remember getting the same locations back then.
This may be a coincidence, but it seems the locations aren't as random as people are claiming.
Omegas are not the most efficient readily available upgrades (phoenix are without a doubt). Where the omegas are superior to phoenix upgrades is in the option to raise quality (they are more like a vast improvement over the crafted "experimental" upgrades in the same way that phoenix upgrades are over the "improved" crafted ones).
