A fair amount of the sto devs were fired after magic the gathering failed. Any that were shifted over to work on it including ship designers and the one dev who knew how the foundry worked were lost with that.
Pardon my ignorance, but how is a completely unrelated game, Magic the Gathering, getting STO devs fired?!
STO developers were transferred over to work on Magic The Gathering. This included some of the devs responsible for some really good content for sto like the Ship designer who created many ships along with the overall design aesthetic current modern T6 ships tend to use and created squadron pets.
Essentially Developers from STO were transferred to Magic, magic was cancelled for being a failure, the developers were fired rather than returning to the games they originally worked on. Hence, Magic caused STO to lose devs

True, though they sometimes refer to the Romulan demifaction (and even the Jem'hadar even though that is only one race and not even a government, just an expeditionary force) as a "full faction" too, as apposed to a tiny subfaction like the AoY or AoD subfactions. The quote from Kael that the OP copied to this thread was in regard to people asking for a full civilian faction that would span across all of the current factions, lumping all of the civilian/merc/privateer stuff together into one.
Agreed that another new faction is not necessary at this point. What I would really enjoy is seeing more story content added to the existing factions, perhaps in the form of deleted missions being retooled, repurposed and/or updated and then added back into the mix.
There are also a lot of planets on the map that we have never visited for any reason, and doing something with those would be nice.
Cryptic could also consider doing "space phenomena" for cross-faction events. As an example, having a giant energy hand appearing in sector space that needs to be investigated. Your ship is dispatched by your faction contact and once you arrive, enemy ships of some type attack you or something else occurs. Again, just an idea!

Oh like the Crystalline Entity thing?
Yes, that is a good example. But they could do more things like that too!
Since Kael say they can't work on 'full factions', Sub and Demi-factions could still be on the table, I'm a proud altaholic with a thing for loopholes and eventually I'll complete my goal of having a character of every playable race and faction.

Ah, thx.
