Every Item needs to have a value

zakaramzakaram Member Posts: 13 Arc User
I am getting items i have no use for, but can't be sold for whatever currency. Can't be salvage as well. So how can this be addressed? A ferengi Business Man on every starbase who trade it for some kind of currency should it be dil crystal, energy credit, Zen, gold press latinum, or even trade for some kind of common inventory.

Thoughts?

What specifically are you thinking of?

I can think of a couple of episode rewards like this, such as the Borg Transphasic Torpedo that has no sale or salvage value. I do think those should get one. I have a tendency to overlook them and they end up clogging my inventory over time. But it's not that many.

Outside of that, the only other items that usually have a 0 value are the ones that are freely reclaimable. Obviously those don't need one, as you could easily create an inflation loop of "claim item from Z-store/Event Reclaim tab, sell to vendor, get another, repeat."

Reclaimable items, especially the initial stuff that comes on free ships are zero value on purpose, as stated above.

Some gear, like the gear that comes "standard" on any ship, is meant to have no value. So that sort of stuff will likely (hopefully) never be changed. Also, any gear you get from events or from the CStore again are meant to have no value, as a lot of that stuff can be reclaimed pretty much infinitely.

But, any gear we get as a drop from mission rewards or defeating enemies, I will agree needs to have either an EC value or is salvageable. The thing is, most already do. There are a few items here or there that just take up inventory space, but for the most part you can get at least EC.

Maybe some items could be traded for GPL, but as there is no real good use for GPL as it is, salvageable or EC would be best. You will NEVER get Zen for any item, likely never to get Lobi and doubtful on the dilithium front either.

Overall, I think things are working well enough as is. If they could go through and make sure all drops can be sold for EC or salvaged then that'd be fine. I have a feeling thought that it'd be a lot of work for very little gain, so I don't see it happening.

I think reclaimable ship gear did have a value back in 2012. Of course some people then spent hours dismissing and reclaiming ships to sell the gear and farm EC.

Please this. I don't do R&D and I loathe searching every item on the exhcange just to put it up for single digits. And I've collected so much Gold-Pressed Latinum I don't know what to do with it. Just today I earned 82,000 GPL for a 3,000 GPL endeavour thats just on ONE character.

Honestly we do desperately need something to spend GPL on.

    Agreed.

I still like the idea of introducing new cosmetic items that can be bought with GPL. Nothing that boosts power in any way, purely cosmetic. Cosmetic skins would also make a good EC sink, but they could test the waters first with GPL.

Ain't that the truth. Literally the only thing I spend latinum on is the Subspace Party Nullifier (I don't appreciate my avatar being forced to dance around like a bloody idiot).

I wish there was a clear all button on new ships that just lets you discard all of the OE equipment which is equipped.
  • sierra078sierra078 Member Posts: 335 Arc User
Or they could change the dabo game so if you bet GPL you get energy credits and if you bet energy credits you get GPL. (It already does this but right now if you bet GPL you get GPL so its useless.)

Ketracel White, get a lot of it, but no value and not salvageable, even says if you're not jem hadar, you get a negative if you use it.
There even a few weapons you get in some of the mission that are hand held, same thing, no value, not salvageable.

Even the free weapons and equipment should at least be salvageable.
And rather than dismiss, ships should be salvageable.
Just something, nothing goes to waste!!

Why I mentioned the ferengi, the intergalactic merchants!!

We already covered this earlier. Players exploited reclaimable gear to farm credits until the value was changed to 0.

If you could salvage C-Store ships you could generate infinite credits or mats.

While I'd generally agree that infinitely reclaimable stuff shouldn't have significant value, 1 EC would not be exploitable to any degree, and since the basic equipment no longer gets auto-deleted when dismissing a ship, forcing us to waste our time and sell it all to a vendor anyway, I'd vote for giving it a 1 EC value. You'd get far more EC/hour by shooting enemies and looting a few batteries.

However, I think the real issue just boils down to the fact that some items can't be sold to vendors nor salvaged so you have to manually delete them individually. This includes a lot of comes-with-the-ship consoles since they again no longer get deleted with the ship.
  • davefenestratordavefenestrator Member Posts: 10,661 Arc User
Discarding or vendoring a 1 EC item would get you 0 EC anyway.

    > I think the real issue just boils down to the fact that some items can't be sold to vendors nor salvaged so you have to manually delete them individually.

Sure, as mentioned above it would be nice to have a "delete common gear" option for ships before you set them active or dry dock them. I say common gear because otherwise you could accidentally delete items in the visual slots.

Dismissing a ship should also dump any visual slot items into your inventory.

Ah, the disco balls. I remember the heady days of the disco balls/ cryo grenade combo. Continually locking ones toon in place AND tanking your CPU at the same time!

This. I don't need any currency for the 'white trash' gear I discard on a new ship (Cryptic is actually so petty as to think pppl will sell the white stuff, reclaim ship, and rinse and repeat, to make those billions).

Would be nice, though, to have a tick-box next to 'ready ship' to delete all common gear from it. Not a global option (as ppl may forget about it), but a single tick-box, to be set when commissioning a new ship.

I probably would be. :) But they'd be stupid. Simple opportunity cost calculation should tell there are far more effective ways of using their time to make EC. To borrow a term from EVE Online, back in the days, we'd call those ppl 'freetards.'

People abused the Steam Starter bundle years ago. So... people would go through the stupid of claim, strip, dismiss, rinse and repeat until full, then mass sell.

Egad, that's worse than I ever imagined. Aside from the silly dance look, my main issue used to be I'd get massive lag whenever someone triggered the blasted things. That much is no longer a problem (eight gigs of RAM is a wonderful thing).

Yeeeaaaa... Try fighting the Borg when someone pops a disco ball and the forced dance tries to override your attack. That was fun... I ended up being the sole survivor because I kept falling back OUT of range, despite the best efforts of the Troll.

Nothing should unsalable via the replicator; it is obnoxious having to salvage, recycle, and then manually discard a bunch of miscellaneous trash that won't leave otherwise, with no apparent rhyme or reason.
