Not sure if it works on console exactly the way it does on PC (I'm guessing it does, but...) if you're at the EC cap you will lose any and all EC that is over that cap. On PC, the cap for players without the EC Cap upgrade is 15 million EC, with it it is 2 billion EC.

On XBox and PS4, Energy Credits are capped at 2 billion for all accounts. At release, this was 1 billion, but has changed at some point since then.
