I play a ferengi and I just got the T5 D'kora. It's a great ship and I love it I just wish i could display my latinum wall and floor trophies on the bridge. Hopefully the trophy system gets a revamp and more ships get shelves etc.

As much as we'd all love some more customization for our ship interiors... we kinda have a cycle that says not any time soon.
Cryptic says that interiors aren't used, so they have drifted away from making them. Players say there's nothing to do with them, so they hardly use them. Players say they want more interior options. Cyrptic says interiors aren't used...
so its pretty much a self furfilling prophecy.
In fact... people actually have suggested an expansion to the trophy system to make more customizable interiors. But again... they don't get used much and don't sell very well, so development time is not really allocated unless its going to be used in a new mission, like the Voyager and Galaxy interiors.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

But one thing players would go for, and have been asking for are 'personal quarters'. A place called home, themed to the faction, that every player has access to (not fleet locked) and can improve through Dil, Latinum etc. It's a no brainer.

Devil's Advocate for a minute: Those would be tied to interiors, which don't sell well at all, so why put resources into something that is hardly used at all?
I agree on principle, however... its a combination of factors, some of which is data Cryptic has access to that we don't.

the thing is, they could easily make things fun in interiors in the form of accolades. have random spawns, like a female crew-member kicking out a male from quarters, the reverse, the bolian in the bar crying into his/her beer, watch a racquetball or handball match, help the ensign in the hangar with a repair on the shuttle.. a random tribble in the captains chair.. the options are endless.
They aren't used because there isn't a reason to use them right now. Simple solution is give the player a reason to show them off etc. Instead of just writing them off altogether. Instead of focusing on selling new interiors or what not, why not revamp and add to the default ones the ones we have? add shelves for wall trophies and places for floor trophies small tweaks to build poularity and gain interest.
It really depends on the player's play style... personally, I would not use this system. I have been in game since pretty close to launch, am a lifer, and have a fair amount of accolades, and completed pretty much everything the game has to offer... but I am not an 'interior designer" and thats not what I play the game for.
Outside of Role Play... I don't think it "adds anything to the game"... which is where you would lost a majority of the player base... I would prefer more actionable content as opposed to maps to "visit".
Just my two cents... but if you can garner the support... more power to you
in my opinion, and this is just based of the few games i play, but SWG did housing and interiors the best. the current housing for the new SW online game is meh.
again, since i am limited on games i play, this is my take. there may be other games out there that outdo SWG.
I never really played SWG, but if you compare TOR's housing system to FF14's... FF14 blows it completely out of the water with a NUKE. You can get some nice stuff for TOR, but...
A: You can't really show it off unless you invite people. FF14 actually has housing districts and you can SEE other houses of many sizes, some homeowners even allow you to go in said houses.
B: TOR has nodes that can only work with certain items of certain sizes. FF14 its total freedom other than amount of stuff you can put in, which is still itself quite generous.
C: FF14 has 4 housing districts, soon to be five, with around... 24 wards (If I remember correctly) each with subdivisions, so technically there's 48 wards worth of housing plots per district.
D : Housing Market is the true PvP.
I got a small plot in Limsa Lominsa's housing district, and I am content. I like it. Also my Free Company took over a whole corner of our ward's subdivision.
