The M'chla, M'chla Refit, Kor, and now the legendary B'rel all have the withering barrage trait. Along with the romulan Malem and Legendary T'liss, and the federation Valiant and Legendary Defiant, this one trait has practically been put on every new escort Cryptic has recently released.
used ship salesman *slaps roof of ship* "this bad boy can fit so much Withering Barrages in it" Honestly I know nothing about ships but the meme fits this topic perfectly that I just had to put it in.
On one hand, it's nice that such a useful/cornerstone trait is so prolific... On the other hand, it would be nice if its counterparts were more easily available. The BFAW version comes from the Tactical Miracle Worker Cruisers; Beam Overload is lobi-locked to the Xindi Ateleth; and CRF is limited to the T6 JHAS Promo ships.
They gave us a free ship with a trait that's useful. Stop complaining.
Agreed, I thought Withering Barrage on the freebie ship was incredibly generous.
It didn't benefit me, I already had the trait.. but for those that didn't, they're getting one of the hands down best traits in the game for free. Unless your build centers around Rapid Fire, Withering Barrage should be #1 or #2 on your list of most important traits for a ship using Cannons.
Well, to be fair, Blithering Wharrage is a very popular trait.
That's the problem.
We just got that trait on a free ship that anyone can get with less than a day's work on a klingon recruit, and that ship can be claimed on both factions now. There's no reason to put it on the new LEGENDARY ship, because everyone else already has it. It devalues the legendary b'rel, might as well not even offer a trait at that point.

That’s actually an excellent point.
For F2P players, getting Withering Barrage on the M’Challa was great.
For people spending $200+ and have one of the ships come with a trait that’s widely available for free.. yeah, that’s a pretty lousy deal indeed.
I would consider this one of the negative side effects of bringing down the faction walls. One could argue that it gives choices for which ship you want to get the trait from. On the opposite end one could argue that it's a waste of traits and they should do more. Before the faction walls around ships went down it made sense to have duplicates of the traits out there, however it's something they definitely need to look imo. I'm going to ask them about this sort of thing. That you guys can think of off the top of your head, is this the only trait with this many duplicates?

"One could argue that it gives choices for which ship you want to get the trait from."
Once you have the trait one doesn't need a "choice" of another ship for the same trait, weak sauce argument, especially redundant & not useful with the faction walls down. That's like paying for "cross-faction piloting of any ship" when one already has it. Valid point of it being one of the few negatives.

I hope you do inquire about this with Cryptic, I doubt much will be done but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Excellent question about are there other traits.
The legendary B'Rel gets Withering Barrage because that's what the T6 version (Kor) has. The other Legendary ships get the traits from their existing T6 versions, including multiple traits where available. (Like the Legendary Odyssey which gets 3 Mastery 5 traits from it's 3 T6 versions.) The M'Chla Refit isn't a legendary ship or zen store/lockbox/lobi/phoenix ship, so I guess they decided to give it a trait that already existed.
That you guys can think of off the top of your head, is this the only trait with this many duplicates?
To the best of my knowledge.. it's the only trait with any duplicates.
You could technically count the Temporal Warships that all came with a trait that unlocks according to faction (Heart of Sol, Persistence of the Founders, etc) but to my knowledge, Withering Barrage is the only trait that's ever been offered on more then one ship. That of course doesn't count faction variants of the same ship.

I got the Kor when I started with my main, Legendary T'liss for my Rom alt and now the M'chala.
Sure as hell not interested in the Legendary HMS Bounty.

The L. Excelsior was also given Target that Explosion from the Earhart.

This is one of those circumstances I'd label under, "growing pains" I suppose. Is it a problem? Yes. It's not a terrible problem though, just unnecessary & wasteful perhaps. Copy & Paste wins the day again sadly.

Every legendary ship comes with the trait of the original T6 version plus a new T6 mastery trait. So there are, I think, at least 17 traits that are duplicated. Withering Barrage is duplicated across 7 ships (Valiant, Legendary Defiant, Kor, Legendary B'rel, M'Chla refit, Malem, Legendary T'liss) and Explosive Polarity Shift is duplicated across 5 ships (Andromeda, Legendary Galaxy, Legendary Mirror Galaxy-X, Negh'Tev, D'Khellra)

I'm sure anyone who gambled for those ships might be upset, but everyone else would be happy.
Let's be honest: ultimately our ship is aesthetic these days. There are numerous ships within each type/class that are more or less identical stats-wise and simply offer different external appearances.
The real endgame these days is collecting mastery traits that synergize well with each other and/or your particular build. I can't even add up how much money I've thrown at zstore ships just for their traits, with no intention of ever using the ship itself.

'Blithering Wharrage', is that the new version where you overwhelm your target with verbal diarrhoea?

Ah yes.. I forgot that one!
So that's two traits.
