Yes, you read that right. Genetically engineered spinach can now detect land mines and send emails to report it

Now all we need is a TOS episode where the spinach got out of control and went full skynet, and is now a threat to all nearby worlds

That said, whatever meeting that idea pitched at would have been very interesting to be a fly on the wall for. Can you imagine how that must have gone? 'Hey boss, you know if we can just figure out a way for spinach to be able to send email.....' Somebody must have gotten more than a few questionable looks that day
