So, I wanted to the space wizard gameplay when I made my sci officer. Ive dumped quite a bit of cash on my sci cap before I figured out that Tactical officers make better space wizards. Is there any chance that we can get a captain class change option for a micro transaction. I am sure I am not the only player whom this has happened to. I know its a bit silly to ask this, but thought I would do it anyway.

profession-change has been stated to be unlikely at this time.
To be fair, while Tac apparently beats anything, Sci is still pretty good. There was a time when they really excelled in ground-combat due to some very awsome science-kit-modules. Some of those modules are still considered among the best kit-powers in the game.
Do not worry that much. Yea tacs dish out a bit more DPS but nothing out of the world. At least as Sci you can subnuke the feedbackpulse of the Queen.
Before they make reclass tokens I’d bet on profession specific trait releases giving scis a better epg related advantage. I’d like that as both my epg builds are flown by sci captains as well.
Lets wait and see.

Has anyone quantified how much better a Tac is really? +2%? +15%? +25%? The only difference anymore is the actual captain powers. Skill trees & trait slots are universal. Sure if you want the best dps, Tac will rule, but if you just care about obliterating things fast, any profession can do that in STO nowadays.
don't forget Sci has a couple traits that are very worthwhile. a lot of people poo poo Photonic fleet but the trait that shortens cooldown makes it worthwhile. Drummond kicks butt in his MW Intrepid, and any decent end game sci ship can out perform him if you use fleet gear.

I think for exotic build endeavours it boils down to Scattering Field from scis VS. AP Alpha + Go down Fighting from tacs.
Yep, when one reads them on paper one gets the impression tacs are like twice as strong. Thing is that captain abilities lose a lot of meaning in an ever increasing pool of new/more abilities and gear choices aiming at bonus dmg (inkl. Maxed out crit rates) simply making them less pronounced. They are just two abilities against dozen of gear, trait and boff ability choices.
I have no math to back it up but around 5% is what I wild guess that gives tacs the advantage at the exotic build front.
Considering the near infinite means to increase our performance on so many other levels I would not break into sweat over that.

I find Sci the most fun of all the Careers, especially with using Photonic Fleet and it's related traits. It's captain powers are also not to be scoffed at. So what if Tac can out-DPS, the small difference is not a deal-breaker, and out of 30+ toons, I have only 4 Tac's.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
There's nothing wrong with sci captains doing sci builds. So what if Tac gets a few % more DPS, if done right? An average player isn't going to notice the performance differences, and certainly isn't going to know how to make them happen. It takes a top top player knowing how to perform well with the differences in each captain role to actually see the differences. For everyone else, its not worth caring about.
i get you want to pew pew stuff, but try and enjoy the game with your sci toon. i dont play tac toons, i tried. not to my liking to be honest. i stick with eng and sci now.
Same here. Not getting rid of my tac toons, but I don't play them as much as I do sci and engi.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.

Psst - You can create a Tac alt character...it's easy.

I don't feel that any career is superior to another. They can all do good. And they have Captain specific abilities that come into play. Engies can actually boost their power levels, Sci can strip buffs, and Tac can turn faster. (Note I'm mostly just using one captain ability off the top of my head)
But career choice isn't going to be the end all in space. Its the build on your ship that will make the biggest difference.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

I like all paths. I got 3 eng, 3 tac and 3 sci characters. I play them all and can tell you every one can be fun as long as you know what you are doing

And in space, Sci isn't exactly bad either.
