Borticus says to respec your toon or it will break the game

If you see an invalid skills on your skill tree tab, or even if you don't see it. You will wan to respec your toons.

"This is a known issue, and w intend to list it in the patch notes.

Please accept the free resepc token by pressing te provided reset button. If you do not, your skill/trait/spec trees will be locked and stuck, preventing your character from functioning correctly in many regards, including [but not limited to]: Unlocking new traits [of any kind - personal, starship, reputation etc.], changing boff specs, purchasing new spec tree talents.

This respec is required due to a re-optimization that was performed to re-write some poorly optimized and error prone code. There are no player-facing functionality changes."

    How about they provide a free respec token to every toon you know just incase for those people who don't have one anymore.

    Or automatically clear spec points and put a warning on the character selection screen and the lander thing that they've done it.

    Is this only for older characters made back when the game launched like those that were missing from people's account a day ago or does this affect newer characters too? I mean if it affects everyone you would expect a respec token for everyone.

    Everyone has to respec every character they have.

    The respecs are free.

    If you look at the skills tab the Skill reset button will say Invalid next to it and be glowing. The respec is free

    Thank you for the clarification thehn and seaofsorrows. I will work up a skill plan over at STO academy before logging back in to play this evening.

    if a character needs to be respecced they should have made it say that when you login to that character as a heads up

    Ah ok i didn't read your post in there until now. There are no player-facing functionality changes." means that they nerfed stuff in order to make the new upgrades not so OP as they seem. I tested this morning i did alot less DPS then i did before i made the upgrade but that of course could be the issue with the skill tree.

    As Bort explicitly says in the part you quoted, there was NO CHANGE on the player side. Its all back end coding. Every skill works exactly the same as it did before, its just more optimized in how it makes calls to the server etc. etc.

    Yeah and i m going to take his or your word for it, get outta here.... Besides I already stated that I could be the issue with the skill tree so your reply was about as unnecessary as my answer to this one because in both cases its a waste of time.

    Thank you for the info. So now not only do we have to hope we catch something important that is posted on twitter or facebook or only said once in passing in a livestream, we have to be multilingual and follow all those, too.

    just a side note for people going into this (not for those having already started this, because it's too late for those particular characters)

    resetting skills also unslots your traits - ALL your traits, so if you tend to screenshot things so you can put them back exactly as they were because you have a terrible memory (like me)...don't forge to screenshot your traits tab too

    and you'll have to console command it, because the default screenshot hotkey doesn't include the UI - either /screenshot_ui or /screenshot_ui_jpg will work; the former outputs files in .png format, and latter...well, that should be obvious​​

    Well, whatever the reason for the issue. Got a slight improvement on a much-needed skill.

    That's crazy-talk. Why would important information about the game be on the game's own websites? Be reasonable! Hiding it in a scavenger hunt of social media accounts is really the only way to go. :p

    And why didn't they put it in the patch notes? probably intentional as they added the game to the Epic online store and you DON'T want to showcase the SERIOUS issues your MMO ROUTINELY HAS EVERY Q!@#$! PATCH to new players before
    they spend money (and since this one probably doesn't affect new toons made from scratch...)

    What, they CAN'T edit their patch notes once they're posted? yeah right, whenever they there's an error they don't catch in other blogs (IE - They promise somethin g because they too often just cut and paste from previous blogs without EVER actually PROOFREADING what they copied...<--- That posted blog gets changed/fixed/updated in SHORT ORDER. But yeah, 'known issues'? Not at Cryptic.
