One thing people are forgetting is that the event system the calendar was introduced to track no longer exists. that's why it was so buggy. It had gotten co-opted to perform a function it wasn't created for.

I don't think they care at this point... easier to just demand heads I guess.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

If "It's too hard to fix" didn't seem to be Cryptic's fall back position so often, there would not be nearly as much vitriol...
They did fix the problem. Stuff like Summer event has it's own timer in a different window devoted to it.
The event system which needed a calendar to let players track events that sometimes had a 1-hour time window? It doesn't exist any more. Seasonal events are not what the Calendar was for. Sure it tracked them too, but they're not why it was created.

No, they didn't. Posting how long an event is running (and only while it's running) is a workaround, not a fix/replacement for a calendar.
Go on the Event page right now (while no event is running) and tell me without an outside source when the next event starts, or even when the last event was.

That's not why they added the calendar to the game. They had events before the calendar was there. The devs said what it was in the last stream. The in-game calendar was an actual event schedule. Thus it only showed events currently added to the in-game event schedule and didn't accurately show future stuff, and past stuff often disappeared immediately.
The lack of an in-game calendar announcing up-coming events. It was a convenience feature that apparently was used for what it was intended for by enough people that its loss has resulted in... Vitriol...
It only showed upcoming events that were part of the current game build. It can't show an event that hasn't been added to the game yet. Thus it usually didn't actually show upcoming events. The only way to fix that is to program in the event schedule over a month before the event starts. Sure you can program dummy events, but that requires you to have the schedule decided, but also to announce everything ahead of time.
Okay that's enough out of the flamethrowers. The calendar was removed for precisely the reasons they said. sometimes you guys read too much into things when there's nothing extra to read. there is no grand conspiracy. trust me, they're terrible at lying and any grand conspiracies would fall apart in less than a day
