A public scoreboard will do nothing but encourage people to single out other players and harass them for "not measuring up", even if the circumstances prevented them from doing anything anyways. May have a good build, but as the example above given by west about being spawn camped and basically assaulted for having a terrible build when the truth is that they have a good build but no ability to use it due to the opposing team alpha striking...
In my personal experience, I've found scoreboards to be useful as a tool to evaluate my own performance. why not just parse? parsing is harder than looking at an in-game scoreboard.
Seriously I have dozens of screencaps of in-game scoreboards. It's quite rare for these to include chat log entries from jerks.
This isn't a carefully selected assortment, this is just the four most recent ones.
Yes, some people are jerks, but they don't NEED scoreboards to be jerks.
a) I used to parse, and stopped because my OCD tweeking of small variations (such as ordering of non-standard weapons) was making the game un-fun. It's not that I don't care about DPS, I've just learned to gauge it by other methods that don't kill my fun factor (like going by the tooltips, etc.). The rankings in Crystalline being one of those. (I can pretty much always pull at least a 2nd in Advanced, unless the particular toon I'm using is in need of upgrades.)
b) well perhaps that's been your experience but it has certainly not been mine. And we already have enough trolls in this game without handing them ammunition. At least, as things stand now, parsing takes effort - and I've found that most of those who parse usually just post the results in the chatbox and leave, probably shaking their heads and moving on, rather than engaging with the people who truly do suck. But those who don't get REALLY toxic.
I've seen people troll for reasons that are beyond ridiculous. I once had someone in a TFO tell me off for flying a Sarcophagus. Not because he thought it had bad STATS, but because he hated Discovery and everything in it. So yeah... Trolls will troll even if they need to make up nonsense reasons.
