Custom species names for alien toons

I think it would be nice to have the ability to give Alien toons custom species names, whether it be a completely new species you made up yourself or a canon species which wasn't already made available for any faction as a species choice.

Well I think the issue is that to make this work they'd need to recode the way the game displays species names.

Usually I include the race name of my alien characters somewhere in the background story, but it would be nice to actually have something besides "alien" in the official race blank.

It's more useful for other players to see the actual character creator setting.

There is already a free-text field in the character info where you can make stuff up.

Personally I'd prefer if they focussed more on releasing new playable species with unique traits.

But I'm not opposed to the suggestion made here. CBS and/or the Devs may be though.


We know that at least one species (Androids) are not supposed to be playable. Changing it such that the game recognises your species as an Android might get them into trouble.

Besides that, I think we also all remember how certain Devs wanted to explicitly restrict the number of playable species in certain expansions just because some (or even one) of them had some personal (and rather arbitrary) conviction that other species did not belong there.


Based on this, it appears that they are fine with allowing players to create their own aliens and imagine that they are playing a toon of a specific race, but I don't think they'll allow the game to actually recognise this.

The existing biographical section already allows for this and should be enough IMO.
