Could the devs look at adopting from Neverwinter the ability to sell lockboxes?

sure you can try to sell them on the exchange, but lockboxed in NW can be sold to a vendor. there is no reason why STO can't do the same.

They could but i don't think they want to. They want you to keep them in your inventory. They want them to sit there until the urge to open them overpowers you and you finally buy some master keys.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

You can "discard" them, or try selling them on the exchange. In the past "out of print" lock boxes sometimes sold for a nice amount of credits but with infinity and free lock boxes from the store that's probably not happening any more.

When you think about it, the store price of boxes is now 0 so the selling price would be 50% of 0, so letting you sell them for 1/2 of 0 would just be silly.

I very much doubt they'll let you sell them to a vendor. And last I looked on the exchange they weren't going for much at all.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

At least they stack. In Lord of the Rings Online they don't.

They even changed the stacking to 99, when in ye olden days it was only 20.

They aren't going to pay you anything for disposing of items that you can claim unlimited number for free in the store.

There are other 0-value items you can sell to vendors, for 0 EC. For example, the default gear on ships. This is convenient when cleaning inventory because it allows selling them from the same list along with the rest of the vendor trash instead of being required to right-click/discard them separately. So no, it wouldn't be silly at all.

I think they could stop dropping lockboxes in missions completely now that they're free in the store, but I guess the drops serve a function as advertisement.

    Actually, they stack to 100.

Absolutely not! You can get them free from the C-Store and Dil Store, so your idea is an exploit.

Yeah selling 0c stuff is pretty useful. Usually when I get a new ship I'm going to fly I first drydock it to unequip all the default junk then sell that gear off to the vendor as it lets me just go down the list easily. Obviously I get no credits for it, but the point is to clear the inventory quickly and easily.

CTRL + right click + discard isn't so bad, but yes that is a little more work.

It makes no sense to sell the lockbox even for 1ec, as this will introduce a source for "free" income, and as you know, there is a lot of people that wants to farm EC, and that would be an unlimited source

I suppose they could differentiate between random drop and free buy one in that one has an EC value and the other doesn't.

The basic concept of NW companion rarity is different though. It's about levels. Each rarity has a level cap, upgrades don't change abilities, just the level cap.

STO boffs don't have rarities. Only candidates do. The color displayed for commissioned boffs is a guess, based on their traits.

I wouldn't mind some (properly gameplay-engaging) mechanic to level up their traits, though.

Until then if we want to upgrade a BOff and their skills, we have to get a higher quality BOff of the same species/gender/department, and just copy/paste the saved appearance of the old BOff onto the new one.

I actually did that a few times. It always feels a bit like a betrayal, though. :p
