when we were first informed events system was changing, we were told it was to streamline the system, to make it easier to acquire the missions, to and **make it faster**

"Players will be able to earn up to 60 Progress Points every 20 hours, which starts counting down when you receive your first Progress for the day."

Accruing a total of 1200 Progress Points will allow you to claim the Grand Prize of the Mycelial Crisis Event. This reward includes all of the following:

1200/60 = 20

So 20 days of grind instead of 14?

but also more time per day taken since it's not all given in one tfo reward.

here is where they said it would be quicker even though by any metric except paying for the event it's 6 days slower and at least 6 hours slower

First of all, this is an experimental event. It is kind of like how earning progress for a free Tier 6 ship from the C-Store (I am not going to call it the Z-Store) was a one-time event. This is just an extended event that you need to complete in 20 days to get the reward. Also, keep in mind this counts the new episode Beneath The Skin, the new patrols (do not know about the older ones) and the Mycelial TFOs to completion and not just a featured TFO. This is not a mistake and is not a bug. Look at the Calendar when you are in game and plan accordingly. Thanks.

The grand prize for the event is a T6 SHIP. All previous event ships required 25 days to obtain them the F2P way. Therefore, this new system is actually 5 days faster.
