They found that these FTFO Bundles were letting people get Ultimate Upgrades for less than half price. There is your reason.

As many people have stated running an event on 10 or more character's feels more like a Chore.

So hopefully they will enable not only the equipment or gear to be reclaimable per character; yet will also allow a Unrefined Dilithium cache as well, I suspect it won't be as high as the 50k reward from Events today. Yet they did 'claim' it will make "event rewards quicker" so I'm just holding out hope they have a surprise that includes some per character Dilithium.

So I try to remain hopeful it will find the 'right' balance. o:)

If I were running things, the release would have stated something like "Hey guys, your tokens are going away in a couple weeks because of a new system we are implementing for it. We are going to be compensating tokens at a rate of 3k dil, 75 fleet marks, and a box of 50 any marks per token. All projects will be auto completed and you will get the rewards for them. More details on how the new system will function coming soon."
I like your suggestion. However, be honest, you know perfectly that this level of transparency would lead to MAJOR abuse. Like tons of shady players would create armies of dummy toons on their account only to slot the projects to latter cash them in without having worked at all. And I guess a lot of people would just slot the project, earn the tokens, and stash them to get both the free project and the compensation for the unused projects.

This said, they need to come up with a better idea than last time.

Depends on the way they do it.
    • Running Projects: Players can by missing tokens for 5-10k Dili.
    • Stockpiled tokens: Player can turn in up to 14 tokens for phoenix box.

They should have done the announcement after the event ended or at the beginning.
At the beginning it should be something like:
This is the last time you can get and use tokens. There will be no further use.
After the event it can be everything.

Edit: The removal of the old tokens happend in june. Just 3 month later they remove the new tokens.

Then you make another post next week, this week, next year, whatever, detailing how the system functions. Its not hard, you just have to communicate important details with people, especially if there is a quickly closing window on actions people can take regarding it.

Agreed. They go on and on about how they want us to "play the way we want", but how can we, when they don't give us enough information to make sound decisions, (where by "sound" I mean to us personally, not in general)?
That's the whole point: give us all the info we need in the immediate future, so that we can choose freely what to do with what we have, instead of writing a news post that vaguely announce something while leaving out all the specifics you know we're gonna ask about anyway.

As a rather very casual player I have a few questions and remarks regarding this.
First, the questions: I understand, that as soon as I participate in any event, that event's "project" stays with me, regardless if I finish it during the event, or not. so, if I read the blog correctly, if I don't finish it during the time the event is active, I have to buy tokens with zen? If the answer to the latter question is yes, then I'll probably only bother with very few events in the future.
Now regarding the implementation of the new system, and that touches the topic of a marketing schedule: I understand, that the goal of any marketing strategy is to build up tension, create a hype, make people excited for what's to come. Not having an answer what will happen with the remnants of the old system ready when things are announced, does the opposite of all of the above mentioned goals and, in the worst case, makes the company look incompetent, because now everyone with old slotted projects, tokens etc. now fears the update, instead of looking forward to it.
For me, that means that I give up hope on seeing quite a few of the event ships and gear coming into my possession, although that isn't too bad for me, as I'm a lifer, and with time, I'll gather enough zen to buy me other ships. Only result this will have for me, is that when in doubt, I'll rather not log on and play, as I'll miss the shiny anyway.

I'm sorry to say that it seems way worse than this.
What you described is what is currently happening, meaning: you slot the event project and, if you can't finish it during the current event, you can always use tokens from future events to fill it up, complete the project and get the goods.
You can also purchase a "buyout option" from the C-Store, which contains 10 event tokens and - probably the most important thing for some - a Universal Tech Upgrade.
This is why myself, and many others, have stockpiled the tokens: for those times when the event was not to my liking or for when I knew I wasn't going to be able to login to get enough tokens to complete the project, (not to mention to give me breathing room from running more than two event consecutively with 10ish toons).

With this new system, unfortunaly, it seems that we will not be able to do this.
    The news says:
Any progress you accumulate won’t simply disappear when the event ends. This means if you have to quit an event early you don’t completely lose your progress and you can purchase a discounted reward in the Zen Store
This seems to suggest that the only thing we'll be able to do is to buy the reward directly from the C-Store.
No more stockpiling to complete an event at a later date.
No more "buyout option" - probably, but I'm not sure they will not think of something similar(ish).

And while I appreciate the idea of being able to contribute to the project by doing more than one activity again and again and again, I'm afraid this time the cons will more than surpass the pros.

Q: What about event ships ? Like starting a project on year Y and finishing it on year Y+1 ?
A: Because I think this is cool: Event progress won't be visible when an event ends, but it does continue tracking. So if you don't finish the winter event, next winter it will begin auto-tracking towards those rewards again.
That's good news! Now I hope for an equally good solution for the already slotted old event ships. I have last winter event's ship slotted and two anniversary ships. I hope I keep a chance of getting them!

Or proofreading at all really. Copy editors...the most underused profession in the world it seems. Even in news articles where you would think it would be kinda important...but oh well, that is the world today.

Well, they have to cut costs somewhere... all of them: newspapers, publishing houses, scientific journals. So I don't blame Cryptic that they are part of the hype.

So rather than just straight out tell us they hide it away in some random podcast? Makes them look even more incompetent imo.
Also I won't be able to see how much progress I've made so how do I know when the project is completed? Sounds like very bad UI design.

Well i have tried to search out every option i can think of to find out more information. Including read post by others giving a list of questions asked to dev's on this. Facebook twitter and the like and recordings of live streams 10 forward's and so on.

I still have no information to show for such activity that end up me wasting my time that i will never get back. Kind of how life works you age then die and no reloads. With this in mind has any one found more information past the we have a plan but cant say?

At this point unless the information is being provided in the forums i have no further desire to search else where with out being provided a link of some sort to follow or even a dev pointing to some where they have given such information.

So any one else in there search locate the how and what the plan is or have leaked the information or forget to post such information in the forum? If so i would like the link to that information. If not then it looks i am finished with trying to figure out what 51 tokens will morph in to.

Thanks and have a good time in game or day out of game what ever the case may be.

Apologies, but I believe you're in the wrong timeline.

Most of the replies in the thread in this timeline DO NOT bash the devs. Unless there has been a temporal displacement so intense that "valid criticism and inquiry of timely information that won't result in unpleasant surprises" has now become synonymous with "bashing".

So with these changes to Events, we only get 50K of Dill once for the whole account, and not per Character anymore? if I'm understanding it right?

I have 30 characters and time on my hands due to M.S. and I'm on a limited budget so being able to buy zen on a regular basis is once in a blue moon due to being on Disability benefits. But I'm rich it time so can grind out events no problem. Events have become my real only means to fund for new ships from the C - store or lock-box ships.

So I'm hoping that the bonus Dill rewards are going to be the equivalent of what I can earn via the old event system or that's me priced out of STO for having time on my hands and multiple Characters.

Running these Events on more than a few Characters per Account is the exception, not the rule. Dilitium is not the focus of this change.

There really isn't any more information that they could give on the system itself. The article is complete. There will be a new UI, progress will be counted automatically like in the ship coupon event, bonus dil will be given for continuing after completion and it will all be account-wide. What else is there to know?

Details about individual events and their rewards would be posted when the events actually run.
