Excellent, finally an App I would actually use on my phone!
wait what?! I thought I was the only person on the planet who still used a Windows phone.
My first was a Lumia 1020, my second a Lumia 950. I kinda got into it because I was working on a Windows Phone app (though it never was my main job).
I really like the Windows Phone interface. I am dreading the day I'll inevitably have to switch to Android or iPhone (my preference, but neither the size nor cost factor fully appeal to me right now). But it seems kinda inevitable, support will end this year, IIRC, and for online banking I will already need another solution in August.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Windows 8 was only made for use on a phone surface. They had that big pipe dream of linkimg your pc and phone over one ui, so you had your pc in your pocket so to speak. It failed.
I found the connect feature from phone to pc to be a huge disappointment. A windows phone could not run regular desktop apps which was the one thing I hoped it could do. And for specific windows phone apps, the market was very, let's say, 'well-arranged'. Developers simply didn't make windows phone versions of their apps or those that did usually had the winphone version hopelessly outdated (Telegram...).
That's why I traded my Lumia 950 in for a LG G4 after mere weeks. I liked the phone itself a lot, but windows phone disappointed my expectations.
^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^
"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
Oh yes I remember when Windows tried to cover my desktop in tiles. I can see how that ties into phones.

It's interesting when you look at the benchmarks for the CPU in the latest iPhone (or any other newer phone for that matter)... it would run a laptop or game quite nicely.
It's too bad they had to discontinue the gateway and some other systems but that is what companies do - make business decisions. The STO gateway was handy back when it worked and possibly could have been made even better.

You could look at another player's build (console & weapon view) unless they had privacy on. You could also look at their fleet roster if the fleet rank 7 didn't have their settings right. You can currently search for and look at character's in-game and see their career, rank, team status with message and fleet... again unless you've got certain settings on and/or have hidden your self.
Surely this is small potatoes compared to other data that's compiled about you in-game?
Much of the functionality of the STO Gateway involved fleet and project management including the means to both slot and flip projects. It had ways to sort/view rosters that were useful as well.
While you may not have used it others found it quite handy especially for busy fleets often with alt faction secondaries back when numerous fleet projects were getting flipped each day.
Another legacy system abandoned instead of improved via a corporate decision, as is their right.

Used to. Probably couldn't compete with Apple due to being the new kid on the block.
