Surprise Large patch after exiting the game

Normally the patches display when I load the game, but this patch (over 7 GB now) started up the moment I exited the game tonight. I wouldn't have been concerned if I ever saw the game patch this way. Did something happen I wasn't aware of?

    That was the predownload for Mirror of Discovery, which launches next Tuesday. They do this for major updates so that everybody isn't downloading the whole thing at the same time on release day.
    This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

    Don't worry, this happens when a major change is made to the game. It is called Pre-Patching so the servers aren't bogged down when these updates are enabled in-game on the day of release.

    Same here except near 3gig only.However, is no one concerned as to the content of this patch. Are there any tweeks or fixes in this download? I am pretty shocked as to the lack of notice,information,transparency as to the content. Too many companies use ignorance to sneak in changes quietly and then apologise after the fact as they think it's better than letting us know 1st. The fact is transparency shows accountability, excellence and very good morale for both company and clients.....(Finally takes a breath....).

    This always happens, this is not a bug. Also, look at the Tribble Patch Notes to see what possibly will be added in when Rise of Discovery launches, no need to freak out. It is pre-patching for Rise of Discovery. Thanks. :)

    So long as i'm not the only one, I'm fine with it. This is Arc's game so they can do what ever they want. I just wanted to be sure it wasn't something bad or a major change that would alter everything. Thanks all.

    You do have valid concerns. Also, it is Cryptic's game under the Perfect World umbrella. Arc is not the name of the company. So many people get this wrong and do not realize the difference. Arc is like Steam or Origin. Thanks. :)

    Appreciated, more disappointed than freaking. It is my PC after all. I like to know what data is on it. Not too much to ask on behalf of all concerned and myself me thinks. The trouble with tribble....sorry...It may or not be the final rollout complete. Clients should be advised about out of hours updates or patching in case of any possible impacts. There were a number of complaints of extreme lag last night for instance when this update was rolling out. Patience was running thin then and that was not necessary, any kind of shout out would have calmed a lot of people....hold up,my dog needs a new bone....

    Except now everything is bogged down apparently, during European prime time. I got stuck in a loading screen earlier, killed the game after 5 minutes of waiting, then suddenly the launcher popped up again and started an extremely slow patch download. It's been three hours now, at 89% with ~6.5Gb downloaded so far. Thanks for ruining the evening, Cryptic.

    My prepatch seemed to be only about 3-4g and didn't take all that long last night.
    Now a LTS and loving it.
    Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
    I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D
