Which Discovery Phaser version do you prefer ? (bef AoD / aft AoD)

rickvic#6033 rickvic Member Posts: 129 Arc User
At this point, we have not seen the Phasers been used in Season 2 of Discovery. As many of you recognize the Phasers before the AoD update where screen accurate for Season 1 of Discovery. With the AoD Update they were changed to a "heavier" look with the add of explosions on shields. Because the lack of Combat scenes in Season 2 we cannot say if the changes were made to make them screen accurate for Season 2 versions

So which Disco Phasers visuals do you prefer ?

My personal wish would be before AoD Update plus the Explosions. The new look as "heavy variant". So both looks in the game

    For blue, green, red, yellow

I preferred the on-screen 'laser-like' weapons, and I do like the shield explosions.

The lockbox originals were a screen accurate masterpiece. AOD turned them into snot-rockets and gleeks that bend unnaturally through space.

    100% before.

Before. This is one of those cases where the devs have deliberately changed something to not be screen accurate (like no redshirts in TOS) for flimsy reasons. In case of the phasers we have no reason at all, but I bet it's something like "players got confused due to the quick beams" or something like that.

Its really annoying because i spend time, real money and resources to upgrade my DSC Phasers. I was shocked as i start the game after the update.

I hope we can get them to change them back or intruduce both visual styles (which in my eyes would be the greatest because the new disruptor ones work really great optical on TNG klingon and romulan ships)

Don't care. This is just more visual spam, which we could do with a lot less of.

They looked amazing when first released, like super fast laser shots flying all over the place. The current version look like TRIBBLE i'm not sorry to say.
I'd have never bought them were they in their current form when released.

Why did the OP create a poll that we all obviously know the answer to?

Then simply create a topic for it. No point in making a poll that we all know everyone 100% agrees on. That said, the old ST-D phasers looked nice but it's not the end of the world for me if they never come back. I wonder if anyone knows if there was any official word as to why the changes were made. I always guessed that it was too resource intensive but that could be 100% wrong since it's a complete guess. And I can't figure out any other reason as to why they would change it.

Well clearly not 100% of people agree on it as the poll itself shows...

But it's a good way of showing how much of the playerbase prefers things the way they were, at least as a percentage of a sample size. Pity the sample size isn't much bigger, but nothing can be done about that. Plus they never listen to these things anyway.

OK then, look of the Phasers. Unless my Boffs use the Boolean, Herald Staff, or a Plasma Flamethrower, I hardly notice. And those buggers keep trying to sneak around behind me anyway. So,

I think he meant either "everyone who voted in the poll" or is assuming everyone will voted the same option anyway even though some like me don't care about it either way and other might even like the new version.

Like you, I also don't really care all that much but I'm part of the clear majority that agrees that the old effects were better. This topic has been brought up alot since the changes were inexplicably made. Not just here but on reddit and there's even comparative videos on youtube. And the opinions of those posters are universal in that the old effects were better. Anyhow with the above edit, I'll leave it at that.

Speaking of weapons, why do cannons always look so bland, by the way? Beams change, they have a few variants - default solid beam, wavy beams, pulse beams, linked beams, twin beams etc. etc.

Cannons always look the same, just the colour changes. It's always the same "tear drop" ball being shot, no matter which type of cannon you look at. DSC cannons look exactly like every other cannon in the entire game.
