Everyone carries a dagger...if the gold is indeed armor just stab them in the kidney
Which is bound to work... as long as the Terran in armour isn't moving.
Worked for Prime!Burnham. All that metal is positioned completely wrong to provide any meaningful body protection, it's just for decoration.
I don't know about anybody else but I personally keep me heart and lungs in my upper chest which is where the armour is. Sure some of the armour only covers half the chest but it's still better than a top that only goes up to the bottom of your chest.
Oh really? Let's compare human anatomy to the captain variant.
Protection for right lung: pretty good. Protection for heart and liver: minimal, and poor at fending off a strike from below. Protection for left lung, stomach, intestines, kidneys (can hit those with a good backstab), lower areas: nonexistent. There are, for example, major arteries in your upper arms and groin. Those get hit, you bleed out in under a minute.
And here's the real evidence for it just being decorative:
They put armor on over it.
So your response to Terran armour being useless is to show some Terran armour? I don't know why your fixation is on the half armour when there was at least four different types of armour seen.
The lower image is still Terran armour and even the half armours offer more protection from attack than the TOS and ENT versions.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Where are you getting that from? I was saying that the gold crapola probably isn't armor, and pointing out what undoubtedly is. The captain variant is important because it's basically canon that Terran COs are in more danger from their own crews than from the enemy (at least the Klingons restrict challenges to the XO alone and require an actual duel), so if it's meant to protect the wearer's body, its coverage matters. You can survive a collapsed lung, but a strike to the heart will kill you (that's why it's directly behind the sternum in humans), and a strike to other organs like kidneys, liver, or spleen will leave you to bleed out slowly and painfully.
The vest in the bottom image at least provides coverage of the whole torso, though I would've liked to have seen a helmet and arm- and leg-guards as well.

Except the half armour is armour. So is the captains version that covers the full torso. And as even that covers the heart it still offers protection even if it's not full coverage. There are advantages to not going around in full plate armour so you have to chose areas to protect and areas to leave exposed for manoeuvrability. Covering the heart is a more common idea than the liver.

Honestly I think the uniform armor is ceremonial. Ment to show rank, kinda like how some medieval or Roman generals had more decorations on their armor than your average foot soldier. And I doubt it can protect against a phaser or disruptor. The combat armor starsword brought up IS ment for protection.
